I observed the Sticky posts above, and still came up empty. Not quite what I'm looking for.
I've got a budget of about $400.00 and I'm looking to purchase a DV camera, but I can't decide on a brand or model.
I can't decide between Panasonic or Sony, certainly any other brands would be acceptable.
Don't be shy in your suggestions! Let me know of your experiences with certain brands, or models, etc.
Your help would be appreciated.

Sony DSR-150P is not in your price range, but maybe you should check the other models in that family?
I have used that model a lot and I'm very pleased with it. Doesn't need a lot light, very easy to use and get any style that you are looking for, dv-cam = better than mini-dv, takes also mini-dv tapes, XLR inputs for sound in the camerabody and much much more... This model has a "little brother". Maybe 100P or something... check it out. I have also used that sometimes and it seems to be really decent camera. Maybe the one that I would like to buy if I was going to buy a camera. I have in general been ok with sony products, but someone else might of course feel different.
I also have a canon XL-1 (which is out of your price range also) and I'd prefere Sony any day. XL-1 also has "little brothers", but I would go for Sony.
Just remember to use the camera like it was your only one... hmmm... ???

IMO, go with sony. I have a pair of Sony TRV8's as back-up cameras (one I bought used on ebay recently for about $450 (USD) Although its a 1-chip camera, I sold some stock footage taken with it.
