Hmmmm...I used to have a '90 Talon AWD that I cracked the head on. The car seemed to run fine despite the white clouds of smoke from the exhaust and oil on one of the spark plugs. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif A 25 psi boost spike was the cause of it all. That car was a major pain in the butt! You're probably looking more for stories of engines that shot pistions through the hood though, right? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

How about a '71 Vega with so much cylinder wear that it burned 1 quart of straight 50 weight oil in less than 25 miles.
I can't say the engine "blew", but I can say that GM "blew it" when they put an engine like that into production.
About two years back... Iceman cold air intake and a deep puddle! Hydrostatic lock bent the rods.
I use the "street" setup on the Iceman now, just to be safe. I'm not about to stop, turn my car off, and push it through a puddle.

My friend bent his valve of his 3 week old 2000 Celica GTS the other day. Miss shifted from fifth to second. Got pissed off and took it back onto the highway and at 90 mph dropped it into second (I guess he figured that would cure the problem) BOOM! Car immediately dropped all oil pressure and limped onto the side of the road. It had 700 miles on it.
here's one for you guys...
friday afternoon... coming down an tollway... i hit the first toll gate... throw in the money and the gate opens, but what do i hear next to me? a newer 4 door M3 revving his engine. the car was tinted, but i could see the driver, cleared lights all around, some exhaust, and whining from an intake....
he looks at me while revving... i look at him... and say to myself... oh well, if i loose... it's a M3 so, it's ok... bam it's off... we both peel off in first... he shifts into 2nd while i'm still around 6500 rpms... then i hear a chirp from him... DAMN! by this time, we're neck and neck... then as soon i shift second... i start pulling away from him... third and fourth gear... now i'm about 2 car lengths on him... speed? about 120 mph... as soon as i hit fourth, i shut it down... then i see him fly by me... he slows and i slow, he gives me the thumbs up... during all this, an older gen turbo supra is checking us out.... i just drive after while the M3 takes off going about 90... then the supra pulles up next to me and starts revving his engine at me... i look over, it's a car load of punks... well, here we go again... i drop it into 4th going 65... i'm about half a car length behind him.... i start wheeling him in... 5th gear, about 120... i'm about two car lengths past him... cool, i figure... i'm done.. i shut the car down.. and coast... a couple of cars ahead of me is the M3... hehehe...
well, as soon as i shut down... the supra pulls up next to me and starts revving his engine again... so, i decide to drop it into 4th again and take off, but this time... the clutch doesn't pop back out... for some reason, the car just starts revving itself... all i hear is WHAAAAAAAAAAA!! i look down, i'm pegging the rpm and it's bouncing off the rev limiter... then.. boom! and then the engine cuts... i'm coasting to about 50 mph.... i look down.. all my lights are on.. i try restarting while coasting... the car starts, and a big puff of black smoke shoots out the exhaust. the car then idles back and forth from 3000 to 5000 rpms... bent valves of course...
drive for a bit, shoot rush hour traffic... major stop and go... as soon as i stop, the car dies... and my check engine light flashes... ooopppsss. aw well, gotta get home right? so, i start it back up and get to the next traffic jam, car dies... start it up again... must have done it about 30 times to get home.. about 15 miles away.. hehehehhe...
so it was just bent valves....nothing else huh??

here's one for you! It's Palmdale, CA. Battle of the Imports, Oct.'98. Me and my 92 turbo Integ. I have been running mid 12's at SAc raceway and wanted to participate in the premier import race. I kept hearing about the altitude of Palmdale and how it really affects performance. My first test run sucked as I redlighted and missed 2nd while sputtering down the track: e.t.= 15.2 "ouch". back in the pits , i changed spark plugs, looks like I was running a little rich, so I plan to turn up the boost to like 14psi. Figuring the air was thinner, it would be ok to turn up the boost to compensate. BIG MISTAKE!! I was running 310cc injectors with stock timing, stock block, sleeves, rods,Arias 9-1pistons. 2nd run: Good launch, slicks hooked up good! (1.82 0-60ft)on my way to a 12sec run, shift into 2nd, before I know it I'm at 6500rpms, powershift into 3rd, the turbo eclipse that was with me off the line disappears to the right of me, my car pulls like a bat outof hell, shift into 4th where I can feel the top end of this TO4E turbo really kick! Hell Yeah, then right around 6500rpms, about a 100ft before the finish line KAABOOOM!! OH SSHHH****TT!! I look in the rearview and it was like James Bond hit the smokescreen button. My car coasted to the turnoff and it would not start. There was coolant all over the engine as the radiator hose blew off the block. Damn! I was praying it was only blown headgasket. Checked oil dipstick and there was coolant in the oil hmmmmm. Picked up my timeslip= 14.1 @102mph. Limped back to the pits. I was DONE. 2 Days later....called up Bensons.
