FIRST KISS
I was a little kid
maybe 6 or 7 years old
and behind our house
was a trailer
and in the trailer
lived a girl my age.
Her name was
Tracy.
We were friends,
always playing in
my backyard.
One time, I had a
large bandage on my nose
from an unfortunate knife incident
and she defended me
on the school bus
when one of the older kids tried
to be a funny guy.
I don't know what got into me
but
one day
we were in my bedroom
crouched beside my dresser
and I was able to get her to
kiss me.
It was a
quick
peck
on the lips
and when that second was over
we laughed.
I told her,
"Let's kiss longer like on tv."
but she said no
and shook her head
and laughed.
Then we went outside to play.
One night, there was a commotion outside.
I looked out back.
Tracy's trailer
was on
fire.
It was put out.
To my knowledge,
no one
was hurt. But
I never saw her again after that.
So if you're reading this,
Tracy,
I hope everything wound up
ok
for you.
And
thanks
for the
kiss.
It's one of the
few things
I remember from
that time.
