Inadequate Apologies
In all the clarity of memory, I feel
I must apologize for my inadequacies. It
Was a sleepless night past your departure, bright
Lights turned into judges in the kitchen, steaming
Water and soap scraping skin away
From hands, lips, hair, bleach detergent
Scouring gums that toothpaste couldn't clean.
I Could not remove my shirt, naked in a new
House, the home I knew rebuilt
By my invited guest. My failure as a hostess
To be truly entertaining shown in hands
Moving mine. A slumbering puppet, I still, you said,
Performed on prompted cue to music
I will always hear. I'm sorry
I could not stay awake, could not
Refuse loud enough to reach your senses, single-minded
probes bruising dreams and skin
I wouldn't touch again. The blame
Is mine for sleeping smiling, not repeated
In later nights standing in the mirror staring
At fingerprints just beginning to fade.

I like the title and the last sentence. Hmm, that didnt come out right. I like the whole thing, but I like those the most. I think this is a really good example of titles telling about the work as a whole. Keep up the good work!
