ARABIAN PRAYERS
sitting there at a
temporary runway waiting
for the planes to come back
from bombing runs,
sitting there, getting sleepy,
then lying down
on the sand of another world
looking at the sky over
Saudi Arabia which was
the same sky over Mississippi,
the prayers were sent out
of loudspeakers over the nearby city
and carried on the wind to me,
and as I fell asleep
I knew I was in
a good place.
