its harmful!!!!! Radio stations are onto it big time and they take no notice of it except to not play the song. Radio station base their playing of the song on a little group who decide they like the song so it gets to have more airplay.
Even Darren had to ask the masses to stop doing it as it was harming not helping.

I agree with Kat and I'll also add that if a song doesn't make it on it's merits, then it's 'que sera sera'
I think mass requesting is a bit of a fraud actually.
I guess I should explain what my perspective is
That is IF I like a song I will request it maybe once or twice on the radio station which I do listen to (even though rarely).
I will also vote on the interactive top 10 on video hits, again only if I like the song and again just once or twice ....this program is watched every weekend here anyway (not by me anymore though just the girls)
I would never make requests out of my own country, that to me is just plain dishonest!
So I do agree mass reqesting or perhaps it is better clarified as ORGANISED requesting is harmful....it does not give a true reflection of the song/artists popularity and as Kat so rightly pointed out annoys the radio stations.
Thanks for sharing your views Kat and Terry.
Nice to see you both
Harmful. It's become so bad that even email requesting has become harmful. You have to call if you like a song, or the station won't care.
It's definitely harmful, imo. In the UK it has reached the point where three of the music channels refuse to play Darren's videos because of it.
I don't believe in requesting abroad or to stations in the UK that I don't listen to either.

I'm not a fan of organized requesting... never have been. I do know that in some countries, and at some stations, it is welcomed and actually encouraged; but that certainly is not the case in Canada.
I know it may seem contradictory, considering I run a Street Team, but although that is the title all of these awesome Canadian fans gather under, what we really do is have fun, laugh, share stories and talk about what is happening in radio and television in Canada. When we request, we request locally and only if we feel up to it. Like Barb said, most people don't make it habit to request regularily and so I don't believe in pushing anyone into doing something that is out of their Norm.
*realizes I am probably rambling*

Wow! Really?!!!
Which ones are those Michelle?
btw - I'm not surprised, given the constant instructions to vote! vote! vote! for DH by some of his more rabid fans
The Box, Smash Hits and Magic
Maggz even posted a while ago asking UK fans not to request to The Box anymore cos they didn't like it.

Blimey!
They must've been absolutely innundated with requests to have taken that stance seeing as how their livelihood depends on phone calls!
No wonder he's not been on lately
