Just curious...how much money 3% of the membership would have to pay to keep the boards up....
Figure there are 33,000 signed members...3% equals 1,000 members....if 3% of the membership paid 10 bucks a year...that's only 10,000 dollars.

If every member paid $3.00 a year...that wold be 99,000.00 dollars.
Too bad on the internet you never get more than 10% committing to anything anyway.
This may be the ultimate example of the end-user not wanting to pay the going rate for services rendered, and the server simply goes out of business...just like super-8 did the first time.
I'd pay $50.00 a year to keep this site going.....
If just 6% of the members did that, that would generate an extra $99,000.00 a year.
It seems to me it would make sense to contact the 20-30% of the heaviest users, (the ones who post the most) and see if 20% of them would pay $50.00 dollars a year save the boards....
I hate when people give up without even asking the members what they want.

I second Alex's comments & would go $50 as well. Even $60 makes sense at $5 per month.
Mike Brantley: can this forum be shifted elsewhere?
There are at least three other semi-active forums, none as overtly & consistently intelligent as this one. Someone w/ some strong web know-how needs to step up & find a quick solution.
If the site closes on 3/31, we have slightly more than a month to scramble. Ideas??

I agree. Andreas' site (Shooting 8mm) is a decent alternative. There's also John's Super 8mm Directory forum (which has been very slow to take off, w/ only a few users, including me & Alex). Otherwise, it's a wasteland...
The best of all world's would be capturing the on-going data here at the forum, & transferring it to a new location. But again, can it be done?

Andreas "Shooting 8mm" forum is pretty good. There is also the other Super 8 site that used to be on Deja and is now run by Google...

I think the problem is not finding a new free host for the message board. There are plenty of those. The problem is tranferring old posts. Does anyone know how that can be done?

Well, I feel badly that I called the webmasters losers.....
Ironically, my idea to save the site...which included e-mailing the top 20% of the registered members as determined by total posts posted.....
....is where the temporary salavation has come from.
....Which is why I was frustrated in the first place, because my suggested approach of contacting the heaviest users had not been tried.
Oh well, call it an apology from me with a justification.
The current proposed solution saving "HostBoard" won't work....
....Unless at least one of the initial three founders agrees to remain affiliated...(with salary) to the boards.
Ironically, the solution to truly saving the Hostboards still revolves around the most aggressive users of this site kicking in money.
Mark my words. Although if I'm right, you won't be able to find them.

Whoa, whats going on guys!
Ive been very busy with school/film production lately, and think I have missed something. Is somebody threatning to shut us down? I read some of the announcements, but haven't been informed about the details.
Can somebody fill me in on whats going on.
I really hate to lose this forum, its really been a great stepping for me, and feel that I have benefited soo much from it.
