I'm passing this post on from the alt.movies.cinematography.super8 news group -- has anyone heard of this - is it true? - I assume it is since it's on the Kodak site!

Selected Sizes and Formats of Motion Picture Film Discontinued
In recent years, Kodak has expanded its portfolio of motion picture films at
an unprecedented rate - to bring new choices to customers. That process will
continue - because we remain committed to continuing our leadership in
motion picture film. Kodak currently offers 800+ motion picture film
products to the marketplace. Some are listed in our catalog; others are
special order items; all are carried in inventory. The cost and logistics
involved in stocking all of them and moving them through the supply chain -
has created a system that is bursting at the seams. Based on the
recommendations of an extensive Kodak study, we will begin an accelerated
process to eliminate some of the catalog numbers we offer. All film codes
have been retained, but the number of offerings within them has been
reduced. The products being eliminated are duplicate catalog numbers, or
products that have very minimal or no sales. Every attempt has been made to
ensure that there is an alternative product to meet your needs. The results
will help us better manage our inventory system, guarantee customer delivery
of key products with more certainty, and provide minimal disruption in the
marketplace. Below is a listing of products we intend to discontinue. The
first ?group? contains catalog-listed products; the second ?group? contains
non-catalog listed products. We will begin clearing the inventories of all
these products, starting immediately. These products will be available until
the end of the year 2001 or until stocks are depleted. For more information,

I was just going over Kodak's price list and remembered this post. For my final film project I was thinking about shooting with K25 or K40 double perf for 16mm, and thought...oh no, its going to gone gone soon.
Im gland I revisited this post. Yes Kodak is only eliminating duplicates of these stocks but not the actual films themselves...thank goodness.
I'll probably be the only one using Kodachrome in my project, but atleast I wont need to make a print from my negetive!
Also...I was wondering, what if I cut down the double perf 100' foot loads of K40 or K25 to 25', is it then possible to use it in the 8mm cameras? Finding the spools that its loaded on is no problem, thought it might be fun to shoot regular once in my life time. Im assuming regular 8mm is just 16mm film split down the middle after its processed.

by the way, have you seen Dwaynes Photo new website...for 9.00 they process your kodachrome for you, and for no extra cost, they will prep it for you for telecine...load it on a big reel with 9' of leader, heads and tail. Not bad. Wonder if I put a letter in the envelope from Walmart stating I would like it prep'd for telecine, that they might do it?

k25 is in fact being discontinued, and 8 mm film is 16 mm film with twice the number of perforations on each side.
