Can DigiBeta cams shoot in non-interlaced mode? Is it better to shoot at non-interlaced mode for a film look?
--------------------------------------------
Digital BetaCam
PAL DigiBeta This is an excellent option for digital video to film. Pal resolution is superior to NTSC, and the
frame rate (25fps) is very close to film. A camera with the ability to shoot progressive frames rather than
interlaced would be preferred. DBeta also has a very good compression rate of 2:1 to help avoid video
artifacting.
NTSC DigiBeta Resolution and compression rate (2:1) are acceptable for film output. A camera with a 16x9
and/or progressive scan option is recommended. Problem occurs with NTSC frame rate of 30 fps. The 30fps
to 24fps vari-speed needed to be done makes the PAL format more desirable.

I get conflicting advice but for PAL projects (25fps), there is no frame-rate conversion problem, so the non-interlaced modes are apparently better in all respects.
Use progressive scan (non-interlaced) with PAL, but don't use it when shooting NTSC. The one exception is Sony PAL DV cameras, whose frame mode (non-interlaced) generates only 12.5 fps. When shooting with this equipment, always use interlaced mode.
