Does anyone else think that low budget films are merely cheap versions of Hollywood blockbusters? Is there any real artistic merit to them, are they a genuine alternative to the mainstream that we so eagerly seem to salivate over???

Define low budget. Compared to hollywood, every other film can be considered low budget.

This is really to vague to discuss.
But just because they are made in hollywood doesnt mean they have little or no artistic merit. Similarly, just because a film has a low budget - doesnt mean it is non-'mainstream'.
Nothing is ever that clear cut. Any Given Sunday. Give us some examples.
I do think however that its not fair to associate an unartistic film with Hollywood.

Few hollywood films have artistic merit...thats because they are in it for the money. Its a fact that every hollywood film needs at least 70mill to break even
True we all like hollywood films for their entertainment value but too often are we bombarded with formulaic crap: "from the makers of..."
Don't get me wrong there are some good hollywood films as well as some poor low budget ones but by saying low budget films are cheaper versions??? What the hell?
