It's been a whole 3 days since using my home computer. I'm currently in full time training to be a bank teller and boy is that a boring experience. We use fake money and fake cheques and to know that I've still got a week and half of this is a truly sobering experience. I'm one of the youngest people in training and it's rather sad to see people 20, 30 years older than me so incompetent. One person was previously a corporate banker (of some sort) and got retrenched so now is working in the bank's lowest tier.
It's absolutely convinced me that I'm an intellectual snob and I don't even think I'm very smart! I'm rather contemptuous of most of my 'collegues' that it's a wonder how I'm able to make friends.
It's a strange world.
PS. I think Shats is inflicted with this condition also judging from her attitude to MR ROBINS in another post.

Wow...this is a life affirming topic!
We are supposed to work our whole lives, but work can be so darn barricading in nature.
Someday, Soul Films, you will probably run your own business.
In the meantime...try to survive and figure out if you can handle working for others.
As a result of this topic post, I will post a new topic post about should one date people where they work...this core issue affects people on a much deeper level than they believe is possible.
There are numerous other issues that relate to what you are going through.

Perhaps 'Shats' as you so affectionitly call her, knows something about me that the rest of you don't, as in she has seen more of what I have done in my life, the work I have, by Gods Grace, produced, then the rest of you.
Perhaps it is because she recognizes the struggles that I have undergone, and knows some of the reasons why I have undergone them, and continue to undergo them, FREEDOM!, my right to say "NO"! to someone, something, and to have that "NO!" respected without being punished for saying it, still being allowed to enjoy the 'fruits of my labors' A.K.A. in the U.S. as your right to the "Pursuit of Happiness".
I clearly have not been permitted to do this, based upon a long past history, and an easily overwhelming opponent. By perception, by position, and by capitalist contacts. (which means the ability to have me suppressed)
As for intellectual snobbery, you have no real right to any form of intellectual snobbery. no one does, as there is nothing that I know that you cannot learn, all the rest is simply time dependant, interest dependant, and concern dependant.
That some of the older persons seem incompetent to you, it is based upon the level of there knowledge, there skills set, and there previous experiance.
For some people aging is a scary experiance as they have specialized there knowledge to such a degree that when they find enough time has passed, that speciallity has become completely devalued, and is now obsolete. At this point they are required to go back and relearn, something that they lost the skills for, in the performance of there job, over all of the time that they have worked, as there learning skill set became truncated to the point of need based upon working time.
To go back now, and have to 'learn to learn' all over again, tough stuff for some of them, especially when you add in the psychological values that are also at play, the loses of seniority, respect, pay scale, (it is difficult to go from a decent pay down hill to a lessor, the work is the same, the rewards a lot less, ergo less fulfilling, and a lack of sense of acomplishment) authority, sense of self worth and value, and lots more.............

Alright, I originally wasn't gonna reply, just because Mr.Robin posted another quite lengthy, not to mention stupid response. One in which he didn't quite understand the topic to begin with, or thought it was a question it would seem.

i think soulfilms is right. although i've never actually termed it as 'intellectual snobbery'...
i pride myself on being cynical.
they say a person's gotta be good at something.
however, i think that if i were to attend a bank orientation and they made me use fake paper money and cheques in order to watch my 'counting ability' and 'fallibility ratio'...i'd be insulted.
come to think of it...about 6 years ago, i did do the 'bank' thing. it lasted all of 2 weeks.

I'm rather surprised with these responses here. I rather expected this big backlash for being so condescending and altogether contemptuous but instead, I got a well done you'd be a good employer some day.
I don't get it... I speak of my snobbery, my contempt and pity at some peoples' stupidity and I get a response of its being a life affirming post??! I assume you were sarcastic Alex?!
This is actually my third job and yesturday I was insulted more than anything I have ever endured. I was having lunch and sitting with an older, married girl (25-30) whom I had never spoken to before and some guy. So we made some polite conversation and then she asked me where I lived. She completely judged my social-economic hierarchy based on the suburb I lived in and she said 'you don't need a job, you live in a rich suburb' yet it was said with such disdain as if I taking the food away from a family who 'needed it more'. It sounds pretty petty now but at the time, I was thinking .."I fucking earned this job. I went through the nazi strict three hour interview process as well as anyone else!" My family is not particularly wealthy but why do I need to justify myself to a complete stranger?
Yeah I now it sounds petty now but I just need a cathartic release or something. It just made me so fucking mad!!

What makes this topic life-affirming is you are questioning your surroundings, rather than going through your pre-layed out job scenario with nary a question.
You are stepping out of your body to examine your present situation. Many young people never get past their $200.00 high tops.
Be respectful of your elders, but don't get manipulated by them either...they will pick up on the notion that you think they may be inferior...and in their own way, they will get back at you.

Yes, they seem incompetent to that young man because they have a great deal of experience. OTHER then what they are now required to learn. Just for you I will put it in simple terms perhaps even you can understand if you bother to read this to gain from it, rather then reading it with an eye to answering in your usual need to prove yourself better attitude
In computer systems there is a hard drive disc, the more of it's memory space that is used, the SLOWER IT GOES, can you grasp that?
The young man who sees himself as intellectually superior is simply experiencing the fact of his age, wherein he is approaching maximum neural interconnectivity. That occurs around the age of twenty five, following that stage the mind begins to truncate it's connectivity, losing connectivity over time as the connections are not re-enforced by USE.
Therefore, people who engage in an activity over a long space of time, something you are yet to experience Hannibal, have a tendency in the neural systems to truncate the pathways, losing some of the ones that had previously been there. This leaves only the pathways that have had the greatest usage over the time that they have been working.
Ergo it is more difficult for them to re-establish the pathways that they had previously had, in their brains, as the level of neural plasticity has diminished over time, and/with their TRAINING.
KNOW WHAT LOGIC MEANS?
LOGIC means that when we state that A is greater then B (A>B) we can determine from the simplicity of A having a value of 8, and B having a value of 5, that there is within A an equivalency of B, as we know that in 8 we can find the value 5.
But in acknowledging that reality, that does NOT allow us to now state that B is equal to A, even thought we know that the value of B can be found in A, because the original statement, the CONCLUSION is that A is greater then B.
This is why I could see why you saw a catch 22 in the?Dis Dis? business, but it is not applicable, because the answer that I gave IS THE CONCLUSION
THAT IS HOW LOGIC WORKS, and it requires that you have some knowledge to deal with to start. Clearly you do, but I suspect that you lack in practical experience, in life, as to realize just what it is that you are talking about, how some of it applies.
Further to all of that is the simplicity that you are proving that what you have attempted to state about me is very clearly, and truthfully, the truth about you! The persistent attacks, the weak arguments, (Heck you didn't even bother to couch you attack behind a weak argument this time. Here?s a 'Weak argument'; "You attacked me for my spelling of exist, so I can go after you for 'their'" you do not show yourself to be better, but you sink the level at any opportunity you get!)
If you truly had wanted to learn something, you would have asked a question, like ?I don?t understand what you mean by it?s their experience that makes them seem incompetent, please explain further that statement?, as that would have demonstrated a desire to learn, as opposed to your clear attack upon me for YOUR not having enough knowledge to understand what I have stated.
But clearly this isn?t you, you are not someone looking to learn new things, not someone in possession of curiosity, no, you are someone who is arrogant in his belief that you know everything, arrogant to the point that you are going to prove this to everyone, and I am the person that you are going to abuse to prove it.
I?ll tell you right here child, be forewarned, very forewarned, I am not the guy you want to attempt this upon, cause I?ll take you to pieces very easily, slowly, diligently, and by God?s Grace, with more ease then you know!
As for the suppression of me, it isn?t because ?I?m dumb? as you so ineloquently put it, it is because of what I know that I am being suppressed, and because what I know is (apparently) that far ahead of the rest of the pack. But you wouldn?t know that, nor would you have a clue how to recognize that, as you are far to eager to try to prove that you are the one who knows, even thought you are the one who can?t even find meaning in his life!
And this also proves what you have attempted to state about me, going off topic, exactly what you have accomplished with you little, wee, tiny, diatribe of attack, what you keep seeing in me is really the truth about you, but you don?t have enough intellectual curiosity or insight to see that, no introspection, just a spit out venom for anyone who has opinions that don?t match up with your skewed view of the world.
So challenge me, if you will, demonstrate to me your Superior Logic Skills, (if you have any!) that actually come from anything/something that isn?t simply you parroting another. Tell me something that you have discovered, tell me something new!
Oh, and by the way, you never held up your end of the bargain in the ?Dis Dis? piece, you never proved anything!
