St. George was a cavalryman who died a martyr's death in 303 A.D. when Rome was governed by an anti-Christian emperor Diocletian. Later, he became associated with the legend of a mythical dragonkiller, known both in Europe and in Asia. As the legend fitted to symbolize the victory of Christianity over paganism it got reflected in iconography as well. Hence the image of St. George as a brave warrior, victor and miracle-worker. And this is why the so-called George's Thaler was considered one of the most precious amulets in the 16th-17th century European wars.
I much perfer to say happy birthday to our own George on February 22nd.

Thanks Sean. No dragons over here in Florida to slay but I do have a heard of lizards in my flower beds. Cute little buggers. When I was painting my neighbor's place across the street back in January/February when I was in between jobs a little lizard came up to my ladder (he was on the roof)and was checking me out and looked like he never saw a person before. He took off and a few minutes later an older lizard 4x his size came running across the roof and slid to a stop right in front of me to check me out (I guess he didn't believe the little one who was right behind him) Funniest thing I ever saw. They may in fact live on the roof and gutters and never did see a person before...

Lizards, fire ants, palmetto bugs, wasps, dragon flies, mosquitos, and about a dozen or so insects I have no idea what they are... I co-exist peacefully with all of them except the fire ants. I like to flood their mounds with the hose, when the queen fire ant is floated out I take it over and drop it on a rival mound. Within a day both colonies kill each other and I don't have to use any chemicals to do it. [img]graemlins/smarty.gif[/img]
well a gallon would definitely be over-kill. But I have used a cup full. Poof! Now them's fireants now!
It's more fun to pour in a gallon of gas, let it soak a few minutes and then light it.
I've done that too in reprisal for an attack...
