I am thinking I have way too many AG things for AGOTs. I made too many impulse buys during the "code" days, and also on eBay. Now, after spending most of the weekend going through things and doing some major cleaning, I have come to the realization that I really don't need adirondack chairs, I don't need a barbecue and a bunch of dishes, I don't need a light-up campfire, I don't need a multitude of outfits. I think I enjoyed my collection more when it was smaller, so I'm planning on paring things down here pretty soon. It's definitely my AGOTs that have gotten me into trouble. If I had a daughter it would be a whole different story.
Has anyone else come to a crossroads of sorts like this? How did you decide what to get rid of and/or how did you decide what was really necessary. My Felicity doesn't count - all her stuff stays. So my question pertains to AGOT stuff only. And my AGOTs stay too. It's all their stuff that's making me step back and take a serious look at my situation.

Since I like to dress the girls similarly (all school or birthday, or summer, etc) I would keep the AGoT outfits that fit the same catagories as the historicals. We have several "modern" girls so we have several school outfits for example. Each girl also has a sport outfit too. And a halloween costume and... OK maybe this won't really help - LOL. Just a thought.

I'm in the same situation. I have all the outfits and accessories, including most of the furniture, that has been for sale in the past year and many of the retired items. I have some grown children that buy me everything. (I'm truly blessed). LOL
When a person has so much it becomes a problem to find things. I can't get rid of anything because it is gifts. I'm working on a new storage system now and going through everything. By the time I get this straightened out, the new collections will arrive and I'll be back to square one.

Definitely. I was cleaning out my AG stuff the other day and found about a dozen retired AGT outfits were part of my collection, except I have no AGTs (except Mari, but she only wears dance clothes ). I must have gotten them all when I was much smaller, and now I have no idea what to do with them all.

I've felt this way lately too! I think I posted a while back about feeling overwhelmed. Our collection seems so random right now, and browsing on ebay does not help! I am trying not to look at ebay unless I am looking for something specific~not just doing a broad american girl search!
I still have to go through all our clothing bins and sort of what we love from what we have. I'm thinking of selling my white body Molly with double silver eye, my AGT retired #6, and AGT redhair, green eyes (not sure her number), along with some clothing. I don't think I will sell furniture, but maybe pack it away for a while. DD is still only 7, so her interests may still change. I have to keep reminding myself that I got into AG for DD, and it's okay for her to play with her historicals in a modern way. I know others will disagree, but I don't want to discourage her imagination or instruct her how to play with the dolls.

I know what you mean. My collection is huge, but I can't part with anything so I took part of my linen closet in the upstairs hall and made it into an AG closet using spring curtain rods for all the outfits. I put all the accessories in a ziplock ,punched a hole, attached a rubber band, then attached that to the hanger. Everything is all together that way. I folded the boxes and tissue paper and put them in a carton in the basement. I put the larger items like the grill on the shelves. Everything is consolidated and when I open the closet it looks so great.
If I do part with any of the AGOT things I think I would cut down with some of the sporty ones. I would keep the meet outfits, the holidays (they are LE) and the costumes. Some of the jeans and jackets look similar. Also I would cut down the PJ's, robes & bathing suits. I'd keep the original sport outfits ie Tennis I, Basketball I, etc.
But that's me...........

I feel the pain of AG Dress Designer about not being able to get rid of things that were gifts. I have probably 5 of the first AGOT outfits available withing the 1st few years. Molly wore each of them once or twice after receiving, but I'm big on not having Historicals go outside their time period...it feels weird to me because Molly has a specific personality and everything. I'd like to sell the outfits and make a couple extra bucks but I can't bring myself to do it. This weekend it took me about 10 years to sell at our garage sale a few handmade dresses my mom intially bought me for Molly when I first started out. I feel awful. My mom got those for me, but then again I never used them. The quality wasn't up to my standards. And they weren't really the right time period. I ended up saving one dress and a red cloak that mom got because I soooo wanted Felicity's Red Cloak, and then sold the other three (I ended up selling them to a person from the local center that cares for developmentally handicapped adults, so I feel better that someone will really enjoy them...and not tire of them when they hit their teens).
My suggestion would be similar to vew-tori's. I would make sure I had:
?school outfit
?Christmas or other Holiday outfit
?Halloween costume
?and then an outfit for summer and spring (if not winter and fall too)

I'm in the same situation, and seriously thinking of selling a huge portion of my collection. I enjoy it....but it's gotten too big again.
