Back from the dyno

Back from the dyno and not too pleased. [img]frown.gif[/img] Something is wrong with the motor. Only made 189hp and 132tq and this is with 10psi. Humidity was about 15 and temp. in the dyno place was 86. First pull the car was detonating slightly as the car start pulling in 4th gear on the dyno but was only slightly audible on the dyno. There is no way I could of heard it during normal driving. Retarded the timing, pinging gone. Anywayz, kinda bummed. [img]frown.gif[/img]

The car was feeling fine after I picked it up from the car audio shop where I had an amp, box and cd receiver installed. Could something have happen with the wiring of audio equipment to the Hondata itself?

I had it tuned in December and this was at the base 6psi then added the JR pully and this is my first attempt at seeing what I put was putting down. From the looks of it, who knows how long I was detonating slightly so maybe it just took it's toll and the rings are going but there is no blow by in my catch can or clear hose, no smoke coming out the tailpipe. The only thing that's really changed in the last two days is the smell of gas so will start looking there as well. Maybe my fuel pump took a dump on me or the injectors are sticking open. Dunno, will just have to see how the compression test comes out.

I was about to start doing some cam gear tuning as well but this came up. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Belts were tight, It was hitting a solid 12psi on the boost gauge from 2k to 8k. But the exhaust smell rich as hell. Tried running a different p28 ecu but the same results. Burned another chip with the map Hondata provides for 440cc injectors, JRSC and 10psi but it ran even worse. If you guys have any ideas or suggestions I'm all ears. Hopefully it's nothing too bad. I'm praying it just needs a retune or maybe the Hondata map just took a dump on me or something stupid. I just hope it is. Anywayz, this sucks. [img]frown.gif[/img] I'll keep you guys posted.

Three questions:

1) What brand of dyno did you use ???
2) What did your A/F values look like during the entire run ???
3) What powerplant are you using and what mods have you added to it ???

By the sounds of your post you had it tuned running 6psi and then just threw on the pulley upgrade? Have you done any tuning since then?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes that is exactly what I did. This was the first time back on the dyno to see what I'm putting down with more boost. It was running fine, you could feel the difference. I took my friend out in my car a week ago cause he's looking at getting a JR for his b16 hatch but now it feels like it's at 6psi.

Another thing I found out is Phoenix uses a "summer gas" which adds 10% ethanol to the gas which makes cars run leaner to promote cleaner air. Maybe that's just my problem?

Anywayz, did a compression test yesterday, solid 195 across all 4 cylinders, checked the plugs, no oil residue, no white specs except for really small specs on cylinder 2 but nothing to get alarmed about. So the motor is healthy, it's just something to do with the tune now.

Still need to finish up my kami header and 2.5 exhaust system and go get a retune here at the local Hondata dealer, Locash Racing and then go from there. What I really wanted to do was dyno first then dyno after I add the 2.5" header and exhaust to see if there was any gains but oh well.

Thanks for the posts, that's probably what it just is, bad "summer gas", absolute heat (108 degrees daily) and a retune.

Dyno rule #1: ALWAYS use a wideband O2 sensor when your car is strapped down to the rollers. Just seeing "what you got" is redneck... you need to KNOW what you got, and that includes your A/F values as well as the HP and Torque.

The other issues that you mentioned are also valid. Poor fuel quality and high ambient temps will hurt performance. Have Joe tune the car with your current set-up and I suspect that the numbers will improve.

Why not re-tune when you upped the boost? Suppose you were running lean the whole time after when you upped the boost. That could definately cause issues with your motor!
