ok...
so i decided to make my HB rounds.
here is what i've discovered:
as if it were no (new) surprise,
HB admin. really needs to crack down
on the consistant 'new forum' BS
that seems to be flying around...
this means, they need to shorten the
grace period of 21 days (or 6 months
as the admin sees it) to something
more reasonable...
like 2 weeks.
and i mean
2 weeks.
i don't think there is a single forum
in the TEEN category (and i'd just about
add a few more here) that is worth keeping.
secondly--
as if the darius danesh wankers weren't
enough on one board...
there is now (i think) a bazillion.
like each member of the original board
decided to make their own.
i just found another one in....
of all places....
the freakin TV category.
WTF????
people don't click the freaking ad here
to pay for this kind of leadership.
i understand all the admin. troubles,
but cmon...
when i think about that week (or two, or three)
that HB was offline for whatever reason,
i just keep thinking that somewhere in
all that technical mess, wasted forums
and categories (such as TEEN and DARIUS DRIVEL)
were being forwarded to the new HB...
something has got to give!!!

You toss Jizz Nasty and The Acropolis in there, and i'll agree with you

sure.......
only years after your other two
boards are but a memory...

Agreed about the obviously dead forums. Before the initial transfer to the beta testing site, personally went thru EVERY forum on HB to check last-post dates. Christ, there were over a hundred forums that hadn't been posted in for between 30 days - 8 months! Steven was NOT a happy camper to hear that his admin staff missed so damn many dead forums. But, luckily, before the transfer to the beta site, believe they were all deleted.
Since then, during the MySQL transfer which caused the several-week outage, Spoke to Steven several times (can't remember if it was over the board or thru email(?)). He said that because of the extended outage, he and the other admin staff would be a bit more lienient about last-post dates.
But, by now, if he forum(s) don't have a new reply (noticed many forums last posts go back to February & March), believe it would be safe to scrap the lot.
Perhaps you should repost this thread in the Admin forum, as complaining here would be pretty useless. Admins don't seem to surf this board much, except on the Admin forum.

complaining here is useless...agreed.
posting here is useless.
but complaining IN a post......
ah...
there's the rub!
-
ok...here's my deal.
i don't think it is my responsibility
to report useless forums.
i could be wrong (or hopeful)--
but i would assume that since the admin.
has ways of keeping track of times, dates
and all that BS associated with posting,
then they sure as hell can find or create
a program that instantly deletes a forum
after the limit is up.
case closed.
problem solved.
i could post all day in the admin. forum
about ganked forums...
but that don't mean they are gonna run
right over and do something about it.
i remember you posting all the dead forums
to the admin.
and i also recall the admin. being somewhat
surprised at the amount of limp forums.
if the problem is in the bookkeeping,
get yerself a new bookkeeper...
not 5 guys that stand there and point
at where the problem is.

Apparently, there IS a program incorporated into UBB which tells the admins when a certain no-post time limit has been reached, but it needs to be "approved" by an admin before 86-ing the forum (or all the empty read-only forums woulda vanished by now). And considering how modified this UBB has become since HB1, and then rewriting & transferring over to MySQL database, wouldn't trust any kinda auto-delete countdown program!
The auto-countdown feature barely worked before (remembering the suprise my manual search caused), so wouldn't think that feature woulda been improved upon, or even still active, after the recent major script rewriting.
It might be time for a few members to each grab a sub-category or two on the topic-list page for another manual search to inform the admins again of cobwebs....

hmmm...
i think you may be right, tard.
since there are a few of us that
roam HB like manic freaks, i'd
consider helping discover the
dead forums....
if i thought that the admin would
do something about it.
and assigning categories...
or halving HB in sections, would
make the job faster.
all i know is...
the music category needs direct attention.

The best way to find-out if doing so would be of any help is to just ask in the Admin forum. I'd be up for taking on a couple categories, but not the whole kit-n-kabootle again!

i am online....ok....consistantly.
(why lie?)
i think i could do the whole thing.
tis the very witching hour of the night
that i get so freakin bored in anyway.
but i would certainly share the priveledge...
er...chore.
hmmmm....
its a good idea for a thread.
i think i'll start now.
for starters, i'm gonna do a thread
of all the ganked dead forums from
ARTS through MISCELLANEOUS.
thats about half.
i'll even be generous and go beyond the
21 day marker and start with any forum
that is dead prior to may 1.
i'm so nice.
(not to mention bored)
that way, if the admin is cool,
all i'll hafta do is link my thread.
