i'll convert my 2kauto tranny to manual maybe 2 weeks later and it takes 6-8 hours to be done. is it right? the guy will work on my tranny has been workink honda dealer 5 years and he knows what he is doing and i saw him take all the parts out of a car and separate engine taking him four hours.
i'm wondering he can convert tranny for 8 hours?
5peed w/ sc can make a car stay head to head w/ gsr?
should i swap an engine while doing the tranny convertion?

Well my integra used to be automatic until I installed a 5-speed manual... here's the parts list I needed (a civic shouldn't be too much different):
-5 speed tranny: $550
-Flywheel:*, clutch disk: $100, and pressure plate: $50
-cover plate for manual tranny: $10-20
-pedal assembly and clutch cable: *
-shifter assembly: *
-transmission mount (passenger side one): $20+
-intermediate shaft from a manual car: $30 (or you can get it from the dealer for $200+ ...LOL)
* - $550 was the cost of the transmission plus all items with the *.
...that's it for parts needed, other than some minor wiring for the reverse lights and defeating the lockup solenoid. No reason to change the ECU..my car's been running fine for over a year now. I did lose cruise control though, but I can live without it.
You will have to make a bracket for mounting the shifter (small steel piece) and coverup the floorboard area exposed by removal of the automatic selector. You will also need to drill the holes for the clutch cable and shifter bracket.
All total it ran about $750+ for my conversion, which was just the cost of the parts; I did all the work myself. It was a lot of work, but I had the time to do it. 8hrs will not cut it...it took me half a day just to replace the pedal assembly (you have to take out the steering column completely and remove the air ductwork to get that last bolt holding the pedal assembly in place).
All total it took me a month from when I started taking the car apart to driving it again. But that was because it took nearly 3 weeks for the right clutch disc to come in (got it right on the third try). Also it was trial and error since I couldn't find any information on exactly what items need to be replaced (like the intermediate shaft - didn't find that out until I was ready to put the CV shafts back on and be done with the conversion). So if you have all the parts, tools and materials neccessary for conversion it shouldn't take more than an entire weekend (friday night-Sunday night).
Right now, since there have been a few people asking about converting to manuals recently, I'm writing a guide on the process. Let me know if you have any specific questions on the conversion process in the meantime.
P.S. Cool thing about the conversion...you can use the automatic selector dash indicator lights to show whenever your in reverse or not...though I have it where "P" and "2nd" are simultaneously lit, and "2nd" goes out whenever you select reverse gear....but I think I will change to show "D" and reverse to make it look better...

i was quoted 2k for parts and labor to swap my transmission from Modacar, a speed shop in the bay area. Is this price fair? i also want to add a ACT clutch and a lightweight flywheel and i am assuming it will be more $$. if this quote is whack does any one no of anybody in the Ca bay area that could do it cheaper?
