I'm a little new to Super-8. I bought and shot a cartridge of Kodachrome. I was wondering how much proccessng would cost for a 50ft. cartridge.
Also, I'll want to get the film footage transfered to DV. How much would hat cost. And lso, can they transfer it to Digital8, that's what i have.

It will be about 5 bucks if you go to Wal-Mart or about 9 if you send it to Dwayne's. As for Xfer Roger will disagree with me on this and push is Workprinter but I only use RANK for my Super8--I use Cinepost in Atlanta.
Good Luck

Well, I don't think I "push" for the WorkPrinter nor our DV8 transfer service where it's not needed. I think the Rank is the best way to go if you can afford it. Heck, I would and do still use it when ever I can. However, with all respect intended for LAmind, anyone concerned about the price for processing a single roll of Kodachrome will most likely find the 1/2 hour minimum charge for the Rank a bit steep, don't you think?
BTW: When are you going to send in for a free test roll so you can see for yourself what the quality of the DV8 transfers are REALLY like?
LAmind, if you can't afford the Rank, then check out our service at:

Hah! I was just giving Nigel a hard time all in fun.
However, if you want to send in for a free test transfer, please do so! See my website for details.

Roger--
I might take you up on it. Do you go to BetaSp, DigiBeta or DVCam???

The free test is limited to miniDV, digital 8, SVHS or VHS. If a paying customer wants something transfered to anything else like BetaSP, etc, we will provide what ever deck is necessary for a fee. Remember, the DV8 transfers to computer first and then to tape. So the deck is only needed to dub off the final product. My system has seriel digital, component, SVHS, firewire and composite outputs and inputs. I can digitize up to 13mps, so the image is really clean. Let me know what you need!

I agree with Roger on this one. If you are just looking to transfer one roll of kodachrome to see how it looks it'd be crazy to pay the cost to get one roll rank transfered. If you were working on a documentary or feature length project which you were attempting to distribute then you'd want to look into rank and see if you could fit into your budget. Take advantage of Roger's service especially since you can get one roll transfered FREE.
Since you haven't had it processed yet (which I recommend Walmart - but don't ask the sales people, they won't have a clue what super8 is - just drop it in the send out envelopes and *this is very important* write in big letters at the bottom in special instructions "SUPER 8 MOVIE FILM" otherwise you are likely to get back your cartridge undeveloped).
Good luck,
Scott

if you want the best for your kodachrome processing, use kodak. it's worth the two week wait. i've used both wal-mart and kodak. kodak is by far the better choice.

I would like to add, just got a walmart(Dwaynes) roll of super 8 back, and it looked great...alex from the digital super8 filmmaking forum had brought our discussions about quality problems to the attention of Dwayne's, who responded and were very interested in providing quality processing. I think part of the problem is that neither Dwayne's or Kodak clean and lubricate the film after processing anymore...I'm sure that would take care of most of the gunk and dirt. mike
