Joost Visser was a normal dutch guy collecting WWII memoralia. He was constantly looking all around the Netherlands for new items to add to his collections.
While walking through the dunes searching for shells he tripped and fell... straight through the sand!? At first he was disorientated... then he grabbed his lighter and made a small fire to light the place. He was in an old bunker, but somehow it wasn't the same to the ones he knew. It was almost like a laboratory.
Searching the place for good things he could take with him he found a stack of papers on a table and started to read them. They were about 'Projekt Leeuwenhart', and dated to the days when the Netherlands were only just invaded. The papers told him that the resistence had scientists hidden away who were developing a process to mutate a soldier into a superhuman. Joost was never the strong build, and anctiously he started to search for more info... maybe even the process.
In a room with a test table he saw a part of the floor rotted away... an old wooden panel. In it he found a journal and a few vials with some sort of liquid in it. The journal told him of the process being perfected almost the same day the lab was discovered by the germans. The end result was hidden in time and obviously none of the scientists talked.
For hours he sat there with the vials in his hand... then he made decision... He opened the old vials. The formula looked horribly. Then collected it in a dish and found something to filter the dirt out. The resulted liquid was bright blue. The journal talked about having the need to activate the chemicals using gas and oozing that thru the liquid. Joost did just that, but in his eagerness he forgot to close the valve. The liquid changed from blue to green.
Then he swallowed it... The resulting pain was incredible... his heart was beating like a jackhammer and in his convulsions he dropped his lighter. The lighter sparked and set aflame a small piece og cloth while Joost was running out to grasp fresh air... It seemed like his muscles were not responding, but he managed to get out anyway. Then the whole bunker exploded, the flames had reached the gas containers.
Totally confused he walked away, hardly noticing the pain started to disappear. Reaching home he looked into a mirror and he noticed he wasn't the same anymore. His face had an animal look, he had a enormous hairgrowth and was that a tail he was feeling? But he was feeling incredible now, full og vital energy. His speed was increased, his vital functions working overtime. He was what the project wanted to create... the perfect soldier.
But without the threat of the nazi's he had to use this power for something else. At first he battled crime on the streets calling himself 'Dutch Lion'. Then he was contacted by Global Justice. Apparently they needed someone of his skills and he ended up in their Paragon City headquarters. He eventually descided to stay there and use his power to help everyone on the world.
