Does the grief and sadness and outrage that is created because of the Sniper's deadly aim (8 out of 10 people hit have died) cause other types of violence to drop as a whole community mourns this act of insanity.
Could the net effect be that murderers to be do not murder because they have been exposed to an act of greater treachery than what they may have been about to do, and as a result they don't commit a murder, and the overall murder rate declines?
i think that if you've got your head around to murdering someone, not too much will stop you (if you're steadfastly determined.) possibly, because of the high profile media coverage of the snipering, other 'lesser' crimes are being overlooked and not reported on (after all, a news program only runs for half an hour - unless it's a news station).
i must admit, if it weren't for the fact that this person is KILLING people, i would definately find them fascinating.
actually, i already find 'him' interesting. but i'm also appalled by 'his' behaviour.
the media and public servants all say it's a he but there is no evidence to say that the sniper is female??
this is the best form of terrorism. it gets EVERYONE paranoid without using weapons of mass destruction.

It is a woman I think. And this woman knows the she can get away with it because everyone is looking for a man. That is why no one can find her.
yes. and she's getting her boyfriend to drive off in a white van onto a nearby freeway whilst she leisurely cruises off into the sunset on her vespa scooter with rifle on the back!

i think you meant this sentence to be a question,
so i added a '?' for you.
no. i do not agree that the sniper attacks have
caused otehr types of violence to drop as a whole.
its simply not that large of a 'disaster'.
plus, the anonymity creates a certain paranoia
which doesn't exactly make someone question why
they are buying gas, or bread, or walking down
the street.
however, i recently viewed the 'documentary' of
the 9-11 attacks... which, might i add, was wonderful
(in as far as the fact, that you saw it from a
different perspective).
one of the 'cosmological' notations i observed
was the fact that, in the time of the crashes
and, eventually, the collapse(s)...
no one contemplated looting, rioting, or other
sorts of 'perceived crime' that is commonplace
in most movies when a disaster occurs.
i am not saying that i think the world responds
as a hollywood set... but i do think that many
people are convinced of yet another BS paranoia
based upon unrealistic behaviors, thanks to movies.
anyways... whatever 'small' crimes were being
performed during the attacks... would have been
occuring regardless. i also agree that after the
attacks happened, more crime may have happened
based on 'scare tactics'.... but overly, in such
cases, i agree that, dependent upon the gradure
of the 'crime'... will overall community crime
drop.

no.
however, this reminds me of some hegalian philosophy
which states that the world 'exists' as a whole
entity... and that, in times of greater tragedy,
minor crimes are reduced due to the fact that
the amount of crime to have been committed in
that point of time would be evenly distributed
by that one act currently taking place.
blah blah blah...
thats absurd.
