JRSC Teg at 6psi with J&S, MSD6BTM, TPS trick
320cc Injectors, Cartech not installed yet
I've always had tip in pinging with this setup but recently the pinging has gotten really bad, even pinging at WOT. At tip in, I can see the J&S light up anything from 2 - 5 lights. (Pinging is also audible). When I get past VTEC, the J&S also lights up.
The car is also jerking violently when on boost. Thinking it was the IAT, I then unplugged the IAT mod and it felt better but runs really rich. There is still slight jerkiness.
What could be wrong? I looked through TOO's BBS and came up with this quote:

keep telling people that a little detonation over a period of time is just as bad as a LOT. Unfortunately, you can't always hear a "little" detonation, but it's loosening up the rings all the time, causing detonation to occur earlier and earlier, regardless of timing. Get the injectors and kill the detonation before you have so much cylinder oiling that the engine's history. If this sounds scary to you, it is. [end of quote]
So, is my engine history? How do I prevent the pinging? Would an EMS such as Hondata help? Please help!!Thanks

Sounds like a loose knock sensor. Are you using your OE ks or the one J&S sent with the original units? Too much fuel can also be bad and cause problems so make sure the ks is tight and then tune a little fuel out and see where you sit. Good luck

Thanks Mr. Rogers.
I'll check that KS. BTW, I'm using the one supplied by J&S. Sensitivity is set at 10 / 11 o'clock.
FP on stock injectors are 44psi at idle, and 60psi static. Question: Does the JR FMU let FP rise while going from vacumn to 0psi. I've yet to install my in car FP guage.
Should have installed the Cartech & 320cc injectors earlier but the damn barb on the Cartech broke on me. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif
Really thinking of going for the Hondata. Great discussion going on here.

T.O.O wrote that quote to me the other day when I asked the same question. I spoke with him on the phone yesterday and ordered the injectors. He told me that is the first step to solving this problem. so get your car off the road quick and get your injectors in!!!!!!! and get that cartech in!!!!!!!!! I will have my new injectors fri and will let you know if it worked. But really DON"T GET ON THE GAS TILL YOU GET THEM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet it's a loose knock sensor.
I'm at 6psi, 320cc injectors, 30-45-60 / idle-static-peak FP, old J&S, TPS trick and have none of the problems you're haveing.
With a JR FPR, your FP's are going to be higher than this. There should be no way you're running lean.

Does the jerky car studder when in boost?
If so the cap and plug wires might be the problem. Check the rotor don the distributor.
This happen to mine and replace the cap and went with magnacore wires. No problems.

Seems like you could check if it was a loose knock sensor by retarding the timing. Retard timing, still get the same noise on J&S=knock sensor...retard timing, reduce noise on J&S=real detonation.

The jerking sounds like lean surge, especially in view of the fact that the problem is less pronounced when you disconnect the IAT mod. How do you know it runs really rich then? Are you sure it runs really rich at WOT?

The violent jerking would be the J&S pulling LOTS of timing because the kn is rattling around and making loud det noises. I actually had my sensor come loose and I was driving on the interstate and got on it and holy shit I though my car was dead http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif Then when I let off the gas it stopped. First thing I checked was the ks and sure enough it was loose enough to twist out with my hand.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'll install the in car FP guage and check the KS.
In the meantime, I may just zip tie open the bypass until I get the injectors and cartech in.

I'll check that as well. Yes, the car jerks (surge)violently when in boost. It could also be a lean surge as rjaffey suggested, but I'm getting no activity on the J&S during the surge (previously when the J&S was behaving)
Again, thanks all.
