Is it worth re-investing in the new weckl dvd's??
I was thinking about the new series, in particular the "how to practice" dvd.....is it much better than the video? is the bonus footage and camera angles worth it?
same for the "next step" dvd.....any better?

The quality alone is so much better, so I think all of Weckl's titles are worth getting on DVD.
So, Louie, did you get any of Weckl's DVDs? And if so, what's your opinion on them?
new Weckl DVD are mostly Dave explain Freddie Gruber aproach to drum , a Natural approach , somewhere close to Joe Morello , Dave said that Freddie make him change a Lot his way of playing .
Freddie Gruber never wrote a book or made a video cause he say it's almost different for each drummer , so best way for us to learn his aproch is the see drummer video who learn with him like Dave , Steve Smith , Neil Peart etc...
There are a few really good videos out there like Jim Chapin's vid., Morello's, Chaffee's, Steve Smith's DVD. But there are alot more turds like Chambers for example, "Ohh hi this is me, I've never practiced in my life, *clicks drumsticks* ra ta ta ta ta, ta ta ta, ta ta ta". THE END. Weckl's DVD is pretty much the same as his video in terms of "instruction", actually disregard that, is the same thing, with greater quality in terms of picture and sum nice added bonus like performanecs from the Ultimate Drummer's Weekend/Drummers Collective and trying to get you to buy his "stuff"(drumsticks, cymbals, Loreal hair products etc). I've wasted sooo much money on those damn things and barely learned anything at all, fortunately DVD's are less expensive than the videos themselves. I find that instrutional video's are very inspirational. But a teacher will tell you things a video doesn't, like feedback for a start. In that aspect, Jack Dejohnette's video is probably the best i've seen. [img]wink.gif[/img]
Generally, I find the book/CD packages like "Unreel" are better value than the videos, it's sometimes inspiring to watch "Drummer X" shredding, but above a certain ability level then you'll probably be more interested in just having the licks/exercises written down. [img]graemlins/smarty.gif[/img]

no i didnt bother. its too much money if im not gonna get anything extra (bearing in mind that i both TUDW2002 and drummers collec dvds).
Its fustrating that he had his own band and that great acoustic group put together for the videos and we only get silly clips.....if youve gone to the trouble of getting them all together then put all the footage on it. the instuctional part of the vids is very small anyway. its fustrating.
carl fischer didnt do a good job IMO.....silly cheap looking graphics, lousy studio, bad camera work....dave should have gone with hudson.....surely they must have offered???
