Stan Brakhage died this afternoon, Sunday, March 8th, in Victoria, British Columbia.
He died in hospital, where he had been recovering from an infection, following a sudden turn for the worse yesterday. Marilyn Brakhage was with him. Yesterday he told her: "I've had a wonderful life. Life is great."

Terrible news. Brakhage was a visionary... regardless of the medium he worked in. I've been fortunate to see a number of his films on a big screen and have been moved by them all. I encourage everyone to seek out his work. At least he was able to live to work on the forthcoming DVD retrospective of his work that will be released next month by Criterion. I'm buying that instantly.
You were a great artist... rest in peace, Stan.
