the proprietor
of the light pole
cocks his head
in each direction,
searching for playful
foes. in constant rotation,
neck feathers disheveled.
incoming shrieks
from tiny beaks
swooping down
from all sides.
the proprietor pushes
off, free from stationary
breeze, downward first
to gather momentum...
flutter flutter flutter
float
dive.
no salutations for outside shrieks,
but whisks of wayward wings...
flutter flutter flutter
float
then fade
into the horizon
where tall trees
kneel in comparison
to blue sky that stretches
forever forever forever.
