With all the wealth of knowledge on HOD, I thought it might be fun to put it to the test and see if anyone is able to pick out the drummer on THIS TRACK.
The MP3 is labeled, so you'll be able to see the artist and can easily look up the information if you want to CHEAT [img]graemlins/shhh.gif[/img]
It's from a little known guitarist and a well known drummer. This is a commercially available CD, so I thought it might help to build some momentum for the artist. I'll leave it up for a short time.

Sounds like Jack but playing it safe ! Maybe he didn't trust the other musicians.
His hi-hat stays on the down beat quarter notes. That isn't very typical of him. His left foot usually cuts it up around the primary pulse and is used more as a linear time keeper.
My favorite Jack is on John Scofield's "Time on My Hands". I heard they didn't really rehearse and just went in the studio and played.
Peter Erskine produced it believe it or not.
TIME ON MY HANDS is a fine example of Jack playing some beautiful ballads , heavy free (Ornettish) and a rock tune called FAT LIP. That record shows all of Jack IMHO. [img]graemlins/present.gif[/img]

On second listening I still think it's Jack Dejohnette. I really dig the break down after the second head before the guitar solo. Did someone overdub that cool percussion (synth)? The intro into the guitar solo gives Jack away. The sound of his hi-hats and fat snare are trademarks. Big fat Sonor sound.
I really like the guitarist. Bass player probably couldn't hear themself very well because of intonation. China is part of Jack's arsenal.
I'm a big fan whoever that was. Nice to hear someone breaking the law !!!

Doolittle - only a "forum bigwig" [aka like Stever H [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]tongue.gif[/img] ] can use the delete function; but you can click on "edit/delete post" [the pad & pencil logo at upper R of your post, 3rd icon from the L]; highlight the whole body of the post's text by L clik "drag & drop"], then R clik in it, & hit "delete"....
