OT for Dan

Edgar retired, effective immediately. You think he's HOF material? Guy was an awesome hitter for most of his career (even while he toiled behind Mr. Presley). I lean towards yes on this one. Whatta you think?

I don't know Lycan. It's been a debate up here for awhile now on sports radio. Everyone up here in Seattle loves the guy, and he is by all accounts a stand up guy, and well respected, which sometimes comes into play on HOF voting. A lot of people will also have the DH bias. In his prime though, he was the best right handed hitter in the league. He is a few years past his prime now. I think he held on for 2 years longer than he should have. While he was in the minors for so many years behind Presley, he dominated there too. If they would have just brought him up then, there would be no question. I'll have to check his career numbers, but he's going to be borderline I think. I'd love him to for a number of reasons. He spent his whole career with the M's, and the M's have never had a HOFer.
Would have had a few if they had kept Randy, Griffey, and ARod, but that would have been impossible. Anyway, good question.

Actually, he's retiring at the end of this year, but looking again, I say that yes, he should be in. He's a career .312 hitter, with 305 HR's, 1244 RBI, and 2205 hits. 510 career Doubles. His career OBP is over .400. The years between '95 and 2000 were incredible.

....pretty damn consistent.
And I take that back what I said earlier. He should have just retired at the end of last year. He was going to, but since he had a decent year, I think that's why he decided to give it one more year. This year though, both him and Olerud look like they've lost too much bat speed. They can't catch up to the high heat anymore. I think Edgar has bad eyes too. He really bails out on curveballs now, and misses a lot of balls that used to be doubles.
I really hope the M's will have him be their batting coach though.
