REVIEW:
Sleazegrinder
?I don?t think I could take hearing the Doors once more?
Vancouver true believers Grandma Moses respect the Rock in a most splendorous way here with a sweeping ?all-the-stuff? comp of their signature brand of amped-up cock rock. Nearly all the tracks here are flash metal reworkings of Johnny Thunders? signature sleaze n? roll classic ?Chinese Rocks? in one way or the other- they even include their own versh as a reference point- but what the hell, it?s a great song, ya know? It?s glam, it?s glitter, it?s shakin? rattlin? cock n? roll, and it MEANS it, man. A ten-plus year institution, Grandma Moses have been at it long enuff to get things down to a volatile mad science, and the snarkily titled ?Too Little, Too Late? (?cuz the second New York Dolls rekkid was ?Too Much Too Soon?, see?) can pretty much be summed up neatly as Hanoi Rocks doin? the Ramones, or maybe vice versa. With a twist of Kiss. And a little street-punk attitude, for extra punch. But unlike a lotta bands with stars in their eyes and bleach in their hair, GM prefer a lifestyle of grit, not glamour, as evidenced by honest, witty, blue collar anthems like ?Working Class Whore? and ?7-11?, or like, songs about how one of their roommates ripped ?em off for 100 bucks ?Who You Trying To Kid?? and how they don?t wanna hear anymore goddamn ?classic rock? (?Death to the 60?s?). Not exactly leather boyz with electric toyz, ya know? Anyway, as the title of this ?un would suggest, Grandma Moses have had it with lurking on the outskirts of Fun City, so fr Crissakes, if ya dig real rock n? roll, fast and obnoxious and with big pop hooks and a snarly attitude, then buy their fuckin? record and go to their shows before they finally snap and kill somebody. Cuz if you wait until AFTER they kill somebody, you?ll have to pay $500 for this.
