Hey guys, been there...
I was told the same, however it is important the shop uses the right amount of "flex-agent" in the paint mix. My shop sanded mine a little, but mostly cleaned it and they actually said the rough surface holds the paint better. Anyway I had it like that for 2.5 years and it looks great, no problems, chipping cracks, etc. BTW at the time I lived in Jersey and travelled to the city and through some harsh winters. BTW, I also used 96 and up skirts(with some minor mods) on my 94 Civic

I think some information got blown away from the archives, so here goes...
My cars in the body shop, while its in there I want to get the side skirts (black plastic) shot to match the body color.
This is a top-notch shop from what I have seen, the guy who wrote the estimate advised against it though. Said the crinkle finish doesnt hold paint well. Can it just be sanded down ? Its the same black plastic as the bumper cover, right ?
I need opinions by Monday ! Thanks

I was thinking of doing the same thing, I think that the side skirts are ridged(like u said)were as the bumber's are smooth..Did you ask if they could be sanded? There's got to be something that could help hold the paint if not..Hmmmmm......I wonder.... Definitely keep me posted on what happens w/ your ride would love to know if it works.....

I imagine they can be sanded to help hold paint... I was going to have my 99 CRV's side moldings paint matched witht he truck, the body shop said there is no way the moldings would hold the paint, so I didnt do it... now some CRV's come with painted moldings, and I doubt they are made of a different matierial...
who knows...
where there is a will there is a way!

I know there's chemicals out there that will "open the pores" of the plastic to allow good adhesion. I'm surprised that the bodyshop isn't aware of them. Most laquer thinners will do.
