Is it just me, or......?

This might be a rookie observation,but does the quality of a hi hat stand affect the way the hats themselves respond when played.I may be wrong,but I have heard hats respond better with a heavier,more durable stand than with a lighter stand.

I think it's both a combination of the stand but more so the technique of the player using the stand. SO many guys tend to tighten the snot out of the clutch so the hats don't move around, how are you to get any sound textures from the top cymbal if you do that?

of course randy. but i always find when the clutch is looser and the top cymbal is freer, that when you then use the pedal you can feel the "gap" in the clutch, if u will, and it makes the stroke kinda slower/more sluggish.

I have never had that problem, but I don't loosen the cymbals to the point that there is a gap either, just enough to free up the cymbal.
