Bottom Line:
1) My best time (at 10psi) only matched my previous best time of 13.9 (at 6psi).
2) My driving sucked. Except for that one run, my times were scattered all over the 14's (14.0, 14.1, 14.3, 14.5, 14.6, 14.7). I managed a best 60' time of 2.238, which is my best ever, so I can't blame the car for traction problems.
3) My car needs tuning in a bad way! I'm getting a terrible bog on every shift after I release the clutch and slam the gas on again. It bogs badly for a split-second and then the power slams back in so hard that on one run my ashtry popped out and the detachable face of my stereo flew off! I did a bunch of timing and fuel pressure changes, but the bog was still there. Keep reading because I need all the advise I can get.
4) Nobody I knew had a very good day so I had plenty of company! The 20-30mph headwind didn't help either. (Jason/kannon almost turned into a ice cube in the morning for lack of clothing. It was in the 40's and windy. Temps got up to 60 in the afternoon, but the wind kept things chilly.) The JRSC Prelude ran a best of 15.19 AFAIK.
5) I learned a few things about my Cartech FPR. There'll be another thread on that subject.
6) It was nice meeting Jason/kannon, Chuck/96IntegraRS and Mike/registry. Mike and Chuck, I'm sorry I don't have pictures of your rides. I thought I took some.
7) Scariest warning ever heard on a PA system: "Warning: No heating nitrous tanks with propane torches." Yikes! Somebody got thrown out for that one!

Run Details:
Run 1: Bogged launch followed by wheelspin in 1st. 14.498. BTC=.6, FP=30-45-76. Bogging on shifts badly. Belts squeeling above 6000rpm, but still seeing 12psi.
-- Tightened SC belt. Couldn't get at Alt. belt with tools on hand. Belts kept squeeling above 6K all day. --
Run 2: Best run. 13.9. BTC=.6, FP=30-45-76. Bogging on shifts badly.
Run 3: 14.092. BTC=.6, FP=30-45-? (Opened bleeder 1/2 turn. Bogging on shifts badly.
Run 4: 14.144. Wheel spin launch. Dropped BTC to .4. FP=29-40-? (Lowered 0" FP to 40psi, no change on bleeder from run 3). Bogging on shifts badly. The J&S took out a degree or two at the top of 3rd and 4th gears.
Run 5: 14.601. BTC back up to .6, Opened bleeder on Cartech another 1/2 turn for FP of 29-40-69. No J&S activity. Just bad driving and the bog from hell.
Run 6: 14.715. BTC=.6, Opened IDLE bolt of Cartech 1 full turn. This didn't do anything on my FP gauge at the time, but I knew it would have an effect. My cartech is "sticky" at low pressures. Also opened the bleeder another 1/2 turn. This made FP=28-30-66(?). The bogging was much better on this run, but I missed 3rd gear and had the J&S activate like in run 4. I guess 66 is too low for max FP.
Run 7: 14.312 @ 101.89. Only change was closing the bleeder 1/2 a turn to make FP=28-30-69.
So what is causing the bog? I thought it was being too rich, but I leaned things out pretty far and the bog was still there. I'm still using the stock cat, so that's hurting power, but I don't see how it could cause bog. Maybe the J&S is doing something without "telling" me. I heard that they could have a "silent retard" programmed into them the retards timing for a second when it detects rapid throttle opening.
Obviously my driving needs work. My first launch on the new clutch/LSD was run 1! No practice for me last week.
Well, I'm a bit dissappointed with my times, but at least I got my FP tuned a little better. 45psi at 0" vacuum on 320cc injectors is too fat. Also, I know my car is tuned well enough to take this abuse without breaking or detonating. I have an autocross next week, so I'll see how it does there. I can see myself removing the J&S at some point in the future.
I will check my air filter (haven't looked at it since last spring) and change my plugs (haven't seen them since the JRSC install) and plug wires and rotor and dist. cap (all original), but I don't expect any miracles.
Please advise me.
Here's my full setup:
Weight at track: 2740 pounds including me.
Headwind at track: 20-30mph.

Well, first off....i am NOT above 6psi still on my kit with the JR FMU, but ill give you my situation...
I have run no 1/4's but i do have 1/8'ths under my belt
I was gettin "bog" in between shifts then mad rush of power myself at one time. I kept watch my A/F gauge, and i was 2 in the green all the time...so no problems there...
However, i ran my B&M FPR upto 48psi(no vac.)and just turned the JR FMU one full turn IN(increasing PSI). I figured MORE RICH couldnt hurt and i could rule RICHNESS out if it didnt work.
Well, my 1/8th times went from 9.35's(no VHT on track, and just overall bad conditions that day)and after bumping fuel PSI all over the place, i ended up with 9.11's and the bogging was relieved.
I remember LAST year my best "run whatcha brung" times were anywhere from 8.96 to 9.09's so im pretty much on.(ITR LSD doesnt really do much for DRAGGING).
I can also establish that my KUMHO SUPRA 712's are useless on the strip compared to my GREAT YOKO-A520's......but you can beat the PRICE of the KUMHO, and its wet weather traction.(60ft's went from 2.12's, to 2.25's)All my runs are based on my 17" wheel/tires also.
I guess what im saying is......Dont let the A/F guage fool you....I even remember someone saying, "When my A/F gauge is 2 in the GREEN, they DYNO A/F showed a little less than that RICH"
Ok, let the REAL TECH guys chime in now,
Tony
P.S. I dont like drag racing anymore after SOLO1&2 http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The 17's aren't mine. They're kannon's.
I run on stock 15" wheels.
I really do need to hit a dyno though. Even if I took the 13.9, said the headwind cost .1, said the stock cat cost .1, said the bogging cost me .1 and said my lousy launching cost me .1, that's still only a 13.5. I would've thought that 10psi would make a 13.5 easy. Not so.
-
I would think a 20-30 mph head wind would cost you alot more than .1 sec. Is the track close? If so, hit it up the next chance you get to compare.

Greg,
How many miles did you have on your clutch when you ran, I remember you said around 300-350 is that correct? And how is your clutch feeling now? I have the same clutch and about 120 miles on it was wondering how your's is, any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Charlie.

Ditto the headwind comment.
I went over the "silent retard" issue with J&S last year and they assured me that *ANY* retard shows up on the knock display. I haven't verified this, so draw your own conclusions. This also applies those newer units with the programming "enhancement" that causes timing to be pulled out momentarily when the throttle is applied rapidly.
As for the bogging, perhaps the bypass is sticking open. Try disconnecting its vacuum line for a quick test. Also, for the heck of it, try disconnecting the TPS relay, raising 0psi fuel pressure and lowering the rise rate. Perhaps there's too much fuel being dumped in at the moment the relay changes state.

Greg:
FWIW
Your headwind factor is actually pretty close...
Looking at my JEGS logbook windchart:
Dragster/Altered
1-5mph .02
6-10mph .03
Doorslammer
1-5mph .03
6-10mph .05
Roadster
1-5mph .05
6-10mph .10
For a tailwind add .01 to the estimates...
I personally watch the wind when I'm running my NHRA Super Street car and found those factors to be extremly close to the outcome of my run...
So a 30mph headwind should effect your car by about .15 hundreds
As for your bogging, Rafe makes a good point about F/P rise rate...
you may be dumping fuel and bogging until it cleans out...
Have somebody watch the back of your car and see if it billows black smoke out the exhaust during the bog... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/cool.gif

I'm new at this stuff, so my R/T's suck, but hey, practice makes perfect.
Launch sucked, missed 3rd.
Run Two: Greg's suggestion to lower my fuel pressure is right on; I picked up some steam! Learning to launch, watching the 12 sec guys.
Run Three: I broke 15 seconds with a B18B with M45. Cool. 14.85, right on.
Thanks again to Holden and his trusty crescent wrench, Jason, and my sympathies to the guy with the Type R who got hit (by a rampant dragster driver)

What happened to the guy in the type R? Finally some Blown B18b times. My best so far with the supercharger at 6 psi is 14.7. I know it has 14.4 in it though b/c of the 96+ trap speeds.

Thanks. I will try Rafe's ideas on the street. I can duplicate the situation.
I'll be very happy if it's just a sticky bypass.
I've also realized I have the BTC vacuum tee'd into the Cartech vacuum line. I'll clean that up.
Sometime this week I'll do this work.
Thanks again. Any more ideas are welcome.
