I just saw this article about Marisol. The thing I thought most interesting is the way I read it, it sounds like they will be releasing a contemporary girl of today every year. And it looks like American Girl is PLANNING for Marisol to sell out before the end of the year.
Marisol is "Girl of the Year"

Oh no,I would really love to buy her I am not sure I can get her and all of her accesories.I was planing on buying her accesories first and then hopefully save up to buy her.I may have to bite the bullet and buy the whole package deal at once.

Hmm....That's odd, if they made Limited Edition dolls every year they wouldn't have had that two year gap between Lindsay and Kailey. It does seem like Marisol is really popular.

I think the plan was originally to space them out, but when Kailey did so well and Marisol also prooving to be a big hit, they will make 'em as fast as we can buy 'em. It doesn't make business sense to not cash in on the contemporary girls while there is such a hot market for them.

For me then, the doll will have to really be unique. There is no way I am going to even want all the dolls when for sure I want all the historicals and maybe some of the friend dolls, like we have Nellie.
They will really have to appeal to me differently than the other dolls, otherwise, I may be tempted to only get their outfits or accessories.
I do like Marisol and will be getting her. Future ones will just depend.

I dont think thefre will be a doll every year. It will cost too much. Probely every 2 years like it has been.

Hmmmmm . . . Okay, I know that it is ultimately up to each person to decide whether or not to buy any given doll, but I am not sure I would want to see a new LE every year. I am concerned about this spurring girls on to constantly want a new doll rather than to immerse themselves in a few special dolls. Of course, I am dealing with some issues right now that are affecting my opinion. Both of my DDs want Marisol and her entire collection. The vibe seems different from when my first DD saw Kailey and felt an instant connection with her and simply had to have her. In the case of Marisol, I sort of feel like she wants her just because she is new (and gorgeous, of course ), and because she knows she is LE. At least with my younger DD, I feel like she might end up taking dance classes for some time to come, and Marisol would be nice for her to have for that reason. My sister has gone from liking AG dolls to dreading that her daughter is going to ask for a new doll for every birthday and Christmas (she has 3 and is asking for Marisol next). I don't know if this makes sense, and I don't mean to rant, but I just wanted to stick in my two cents!! I would prefer if they keep the LE dolls spaced out a bit (like with Lindsay and Kailey), especially if they are going to be coming out with annual friend dolls too. It is just a bit overwhelming .

I don't like the idea of a new LE doll every year, either. Too expensive to get them ALL plus friend dolls plus new outfits and accessories. Not that I plan on buying every doll, but each LE will be irresistable, don't you think? Lindsey, Kailey, Marisol...I love them all and I'm sure the next one will be just as lovable. We will just have to decide which ones we REALLY want, and with 4 DDs that will probably be most if not all of them.
The LEs were supposed to come out every year from the beginning. I never heard exactly why there was a bigger gap between Lindsey and Kailey but here is the press release from Mattel from when Lindsey was first released. Part of it says, "As the first in an annual series of American Girl Today fictional characters, Lindsey is only available while supplies last or until the end of 2002, when she?ll be replaced by a new Girl of Today with her own special story to tell."

Oh boy! It will be completely irresistible if they do come out with a LE doll and accessories each year. Nevertheless, it depends on what the doll looks like for me. I don't want to get a doll just because it's a LE doll. Unfortunately, I didn't end up liking Marisol so I didn't keep her but I am planning on getting her outfits.
I wish I would have gotten Kailey. She looks so pretty. I am just not into her surfing outfits and stuff. But I do like her meet dress and sandals. At the time that Kailey came out, I wasn't collecting American Girl of Today stuff.

AG always planned to have a new doll out within a year of each other. Since the dolls are available for one year OR until supples last if you are thinking about getting Marisol don't wait too long. Kailey sold out in 8 months and it looks like it could bee even shorter for Marisol.
