Finally before my brain retires for the day..
I have never been able to work out 'chatting up', exactly how drunk do you have to be to either
a) use it
or
b) fall for it
do women use it more than men nowadays, or are the cheesier and sweatier half of the male sex dominating that particular field?

It's pretty much a women's world. They choose whether to pursue the pursuer.
Try Bowling! [img]tongue.gif[/img] , instead of trying to be Mr. Suave at a bar, bowl. It's a much more friendly environment to strike up (oops, a pun) a conversation in.
Why, because you have a reason for being there besides meeting women, so it's easier to be yourself.
