I was under the impression that it's an original, but I could be wrong about that. Haven't heard the other version you're talking about.
what about a simple google search yourself?
http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=...s+carter&meta=
as you can see it's not a cover

Hey Mike if you find a way to copy that to a disc I would love to have a copy! I was in the front row at that show. My sister and I tried to sneak around the back and got within a foot of the bus before the security dude kicked us out. Did you go to the Marquee shows?
Yeah, I thought it was a cover as well before I heard it...hard to imagine Social D covering "Diamond in the rough" by the Carter family because it's quite...different...and I couldn't see how Mike and the guys would make it "their own".
But Mike seems to have a tendency to be "inspired" by other folks song titles..."Story of my life" is also a song by Marty Robbins whose "Big Iron" found its way onto Mike's solo record...
Yeah i was at both marquee shows. I was in the front row for the first night. I was in the hospital the next day...i was worried about not making it to the show the 2nd night. But I did. Anyways, I'll try to figure out how to get it do a normal disc. I also have a bootleg from when they played at the celebrity theater in 2001 with "road zombie" and the original "angels wings" on it.
