Will using a curling iron set a doll's hair permanently?

Most likely the curling iron would melt her hair.

I think you want to read the threads on washing and setting a doll's hair. You need steam or hot water to set it. Dry heat will fry it.

You can permanently curl a dolls hair by first rolling it in rollers, then dipping it for like 2 seconds in boiling water. Let it dry then remove the curlers. I've done this on several of my dolls (none AG though) and it turns out great. Maybe you could do a test spot first.

Are My Twinn's hair made of something other than Kanekelon? Because AG says you can't use heat on that.

Another doll company says you can curl their dolls' hair with a curling iron set on low without sustaining any damage. I might want to do this, but I'm wondering:

1) Does it work well? I've tried curling doll hair with water/curlers and no heat and it doesn't work at all for me. (I think I have bad luck, or else my dolls all have hair like Molly in Changes for Molly.)
2) Is it permanent? (I would like for it to be, although if it isn't I'll just make sure not to get the doll's hair wet.)

I don't even have a curling iron but I think it would be fun to try curling a doll's hair. (Especially my Asian AGT or another doll.)

I once had a Barbie-type doll I hated, so I cut off part of her hair and let a friend use her crimper on it, and the hair looked better afterward, so I guess I'm not quite as nervous as I should be (is there an instant graemlin for chewing nails to their stubs?).

I personally would not try it on one of my dolls. I would be afraid of doing permanent damage to the dolls hair. Not sure on the gremlin chewing nails...LOL!

Yes, the MT's wig is made of a different material. It's safe to use a curling iron on low and a blow dryer on low on their hair. My doll has some nice ringlets near her face at present. I wouldn't try it on one of my AG's though, I'd be afraid it would melt. [img]eek.gif[/img] I've never tried the boiling water trick, I might try that out tonight and see how Sam would look in ringlets. Cynthia, I didn't know their hair was a different material--I always wondered why it was safe to curl their hair! I really might try to find some sort of small, cheap curling iron so I can redo the My Twinn Friend's hair.

Be very careful that you just dip the doll in for a second or two...any longer it could melt the hair and make it really frizzy, or worse ruin it.

I just gave my Asian AGT's head a dip in boiling water (scary!). I only brought it to a slight boil just to make sure I didn't get it too hot.

It will take a long time for the hair to dry out since I live in a humid climate, but once it's dry I'll let everyone know how it turned out. I'm impatient to take the curlers out.
