Blown clutch...worse, tranny?

When you say stationary, do you mean the tranny is not in gear?
And when the revs "drop like a hammer", do you mean its instant standstill (like someone dropped a spanner in your engine) or is it more gradual (like turning off the ignition)?
If the engine is not doing any of the above, does it sound normal? Any unusual noises and/or vibrations?

When I just bought my car the clutch was busted. When the bellcase was opened lots of parts fell out. If you've got the same problem perhaps some of those jam up your engine when you rev it.

Got on the freeway last night to drive home, I pull a quick downshift to fourth @ about 55 mph. The car pulls for a second before it started bouncing hard on the rev limiter. Then the car dies, I start again and go into first, again it loses speed and maxes the limiter again.

So I'm thinking clutch is out....but check this, even with the car stationary, if I rev it hard enough, RPMs drop like a hammer and car dies.

So how bad does this sound? Worse than a clutch disk replacement? Engine damage?

So yeah, the car is in neutral when I rev the engine. So when I rev the engine up to about 5500 rpms the needle will begin to fall all the way back down before ignition is cut. In other words, ignition goes out AFTER revs falls too low.

Sorry if I can't seem to make it a little clearer.

And to address your other questions, yes, other than that it seems normal (no strange noises or vibrations).

Will the car idle on its own or do you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running ???

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">OK, I understand. Based on what you said I think that you've got two problems, the busted clutch being the obvious one.
You say it happens around 5500RPM. Does it coincide with VTEC engagement?
Also, did you do any work recently on your engine or ECU related stuff?
