Hey guys,
Need your opinion on something here. I'll get right to the point.
2 days ago I swapped in a Skunk2 Manifold on my 99 B18C1 motor.
Yesterday, I noticed slight smoke coming out of the manifold breather filter! This got me worried as the last time this happened, the motor was blown.
Ok here's the deal. It LIGHTLY puffs smoke at idle. It barely noticable. But if you rev it up, smoke comes out. Not a lot, but you can see it. If you take the filter off, you can't really see the smoke, but if you put your finger next to the nipple, oil slowly collects on your fingertip.
I replaced the PCV valve about 4 days ago, so i'm pretty sure that is working correctly. Did a compression test yesterday and everything is within spec. VAC is at -19mm/hg so thats looks good as well.
I don't understand it. I haven't done a leak down yet, but where could this smoke be coming from?
I didn't notice it smoking prior to the skunk2 manifold, but then again, i wasn't LOOKING for smoke either. So I don't know if it was happening with the stock GSR manifold or not. I just find it coincidental.
I'm thinking the oil rings may be shot? ACK! (JE/SRP pistons and rings)
What are your thoughts? Thanks.

sorry, I don't have a clue on that one... I have a filter on mine and it doesn't smoke, but it is oily... maybee someone else has an idea?
how does it feel /w the new manifold (or are you taking it easy)? when are you going to dyno test the manifold and post the before/after results? that would be helpful!
good luck

Ya, i know it didn't smoke before either and thats a fact... but we noticed that it was smoking under load when we did our dyno session about a month ago at our sponsors facility (ISA in Tacoma, WA). If you look at the videos you can see the mild smoke under load while making the runs on the dyno.

The thing is, i never noticed it smoking at idle until yesterday... ARGH http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif so i don't know if its related to the manifold swap or not.
As for the new manifold, it DEFINATELY pulls harder through the mid-range and up top. Its also flowing a lot more air as i had to add more fuel to the part throttle tables. It needs to be tuned again on the dyno, thats for sure cause the J&S is picking up slight activity again during shifts. (ie. high rpms, no boost condition).
I'm going to call up our sponsor in a minute here and schedule a dyno session. I'll have dyno number shortly (thats if the motor holds together... ARGH)
