I am looking into getting the new Accel DFI 7.0 with the calmap 2000 software when it comes out for a 94 LS, but since I am new to engine management systems, I have some questions=
What is the input mechanism for the accel unit? My friend has the DFI and what looks something like a calculator attached to the unit, is this stock or must I hook up a laptop using the Calmap software?
Once the DFI is installed, how difficult is programming the unit to be setup with a t3/t04e running 5-8psi?
About fuel, does the unit require an additional fuel controller such as the AFC, and regarding timing- does the unit control this as well, such as retard when boosting a certain level?
I am not a tuning genius as I probably made an ass of myself with this post exposing my own incompetence but please be patient, thanks..

the way I understood it from Job (who designed it for ACCEL) is the unit plugs into your existing honda ecu's harness. They give you a startup program based on the injector size and fuel pressure/pump you tell them you have. From there you go to one of the DFI dealers and dyno for fine tuning.
You don;t need an AFC or the like anymore because you're not using your stock honda ecu and therefore don't need to "trick" it anymore by lagging the map sensor input. You will need the GM 2 or 3bar map sensor isntalled which will read all positive boost levels.
Yes it controls all inputs liek your stokc ecu, so fuel/timing/load/idle/vtec and requires input liek your stock ecu also, i.e. air temp, oil/coolant temps, o2 sensor and it's suppose to have extra control features for something liek secondary bitterflies for example.
And finally, it's 32 bit and runs in windows and nto the forsaken ms-dos application.

Greg, since it replaces you honda ecu then what do you do about air bags. Does the air bags run off the ecu. I have been wondering this for a while..

hey art,
you have an SRS computer that runs off its own power lines....
if this DFI system runs off stock wiring... that's damn interesting.... how come no one told me about this before? and when is it supposed to come out at what price?
hm.... SOB!
anyone looking for a way to get rid of their stock ecu.. and have total control over injector sizes, fuel mapping, ignition mapping, idle speeds, rev limit, vtec on-off points?
anyone like this system? http://www.apexi-usa.com/powerafc.htm
i should get some pictures of this bad boy... it's like playing game boy in your car... hehehehhe

Thanks again Terry.

TurboGSR: unfortunately Apex does dot even know when the power fc will be out for our cars.. I have been waiting for a while. It was slated for this summer, now they are telling me next year... also, they don't know if it will use a 3 bar map sensor (if it doesn't it is not worth buying), or if it will come pre programed... this makes me leary of it, although I have several friends with RX7's that have used it with great success... it is a cool unit

PRETTY DAMN COOL UNIT...
I'LL MAKE SURE TO POST SOME PICS OF IT

TurboGSR: How does the power fc sense boost (3 bar map, or the stock one)?
How did you get a prototype?
-
my power fc doesn't have the boost module...
it's an additional item...
the power fc can control everything!
i mean everything!
it's pretty impressive...
how did i get it?
hehehehhe
