I heard today on the radio that Hamilton County is starting a witness protection program, in the hopes of getting more people to spill about the crimes they witness.
Part of the deal is that the witnesses will be moved to different neighborhoods within Hamilton County.
Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be flawed logic.
If the folks witnessing the crimes were productive members of society (like, for instance if they were at WORK in the middle of the day when the bad boys are playing shoot-em up), they wouldn't be witnesses.
If they're on the dole, who wants them?
And, if Joe Witness gets moved from OTR to Hyde Park, won't the bad boys just follow Joe?
Feeling quite pleased that our bucolic 'hood probably won't be affected, since we already have our share of miscreants.

I've had clients that could have gotten much better deals, but they refuse to rat-out their comrades out of legitimate fear for their safety and/or that of their family.
At the same time, I've seen people get up and lie just to get a better deal, and it's worked.
But, that said, yeah, I think you need to allow these people to get farther away, at least to Butler County, before something like this could work....

I thought Reason would weigh in on this.
