Darren speaking to Philippa Collins on Chiltern FM 25th August 2004
Just slightly missed the beginning of this but Philippa starts off by introducing Darren:
P: Today I?m joined by the lovely Darren Hayes.

D: A few of the songs are talking about how low we?ll go to be famous. I?m astounded at our fascination as a culture with fame and with reality TV shows and I?ve continued to meet young people who come up and their goal in life now is to become famous and I just think that?s fascinating, like that are you gonna do with it once of you?ve got it and you know for me being a pop artist and someone who has been brought up via commerical music in the mainstream, I?m a product of this machine in some ways and I?m commenting on that and I?m looking at my own place in it and re-evaluating what I want from the machine.
P: OK, well your new album you?ve obviously been working on as well, what sort of a ride is your new album going to take me on?
D: Yeah, it?s called The Tension & The Spark, it?s coming out September 6th and it?s um very autogiographical and it?s quite an electronic record but in an emotional way. It?s moody, it?s electronic, it?s confessional.
P: I like moody and electronic things,
D: Yep me too. I mean I?m a big fan of the people that I worked with. I worked with a guy called Spike and Marius de Vries and a newcomer called Robert Conley, and er a lot of these people have worked on Massive Attack and Bjork records ?? P: yeah that?s cool?? D: so If you?re into that kind of music, or you know electronica (stresses the ?a? at the end of electronica) that has some heart and soul to it, that?s what I?ve made.
P: So, your career is going really really well. Any plans to get back with Savage Garden reunion and stuff with your old partner Daniel?
D: Yes uh, I?m kidding no er no I?m not even thinking about it. Er we look we er had a great run, it?s great?.
P: Great run, but now you?re doing it on your own?
D: Yeah, I mean there?s no animosity. He?s er um about to get married to a beautiful girl, he?s making music and producing, and he?s got a couple of labradors, and a beautiful house.
P: Is there anyone really in the charts or listened to lately that you think WOW and that?s really inspired you?
D: Hmmmm???..P: hmmmmmmmmmmmm
D: I do like the Scissor Sisters?.. P: Ah yeah, they rule?.they?re pretty cool?.
D: and as for pop songs like that Natasha Bedingfield song mmmm These Words P: Yeah?. no, that is good. So would you collaborate or like to perform with any of them? Like the Scissor Sisters?
D: Yeah maybe the Scissor Sisters P: cool! D: sound good (in SS voice) P: laughing D: (still in SS voice) um I dunno why I?m doing this accent but um let me stop doing it P: laughing, can you do impressions and stuff like that?
D: (does a Yoda impersonation but I cannot work out for the life of me what?s he?s saying cos he talks too fast! Hint to Darren - slow down a bit please?!) That was Yoda for you
P: Come on, give me something Darren, I want you to give me something?.
D: You want me to sing or sing like someone? ?
P: Yeah go on
D: I?ll do Michael Jackson (does MJ impression in high pitched voice) I think he sings You know I?d be delighted baby! Mmmm?.
P: Blimey ?.. D: it?s pretty good huh?
P: That is good, you?ve beeen working on that
D: I must admit I can do Darren Hayes as well?
P: Oh can you? D: Mmm mmm
P: go on hit me with it now
D: Well I?ll do it when my single comes out August 23rd , my album comes out September 6th ha ha!!
D: Hey this is Darren Hayes and you?re listening to Philippa Collins who?s quite charming and cute I think, I haven?t seen her picture but she sounds it on Chiltern FM.
