Hi Guys
Happy New Year!
I'm interested to find out what your favourite Jeff Porcarro grooves are. I'm trying to buy as much stuff on as I can.
I've got all the well known stuff (Toto, Boz Scaggs etc.)but what else should I be looking out for?
Thanks

Wow Pocket! Your favorite Jeff picks from Toto are almost identical to mine!
The stuff he did with Larry Carlton was great too, especially Song For Katie. It's one of my favorite Jeff grooves. So simple but impossible to make FEEL that way.

The entire Kingdom of Desire recording is classic Jeff. There are some raw grooves on there you won't hear recorded anywhere. His pocket on the title cut is vintage.
Here's my take on Jeff--when I listen to Kingdom, there are tunes I immediately want to sit and play along with. The eighth note pulse seems so easy...yet it doesn't "feel" right when I play along. I'm playing the notes, but the feel isn't quite there. I find myself analyzing some of the simplest beats like one would break down a Vinnie solo. He just sounds so good all the time, know what to play and more improtantly, what not to play. Just a good musician playing drums.
The sound on that recording is epic. Perfect blend of BD, SD, and Hats.
Some of my favorite TOTO cuts are as follows;
I -Hold the Line
Hydra -Mama
Turn Back -Turn Back
IV -Waiting for Your Love
Isolation -Isolation
Fahrenheit -Till the End
The Seventh One -These Chains
Past-to-Present -Out of Love
XX -Tale of a Man
In a Word
Last Night
