That Stewart Copeland thread got me to thinking about favorite/ influencial drummers in pop bands.
Copeland if I have my facts right influenced a generation of drummers not only from his playing but signature high cracking snare sound. I know I tuned way up for awhile.
As a kid, early drummers that got me going were Porcaro, Tony Brock, the guy from Ted Nugent, Bonham, and Tommy Aldridge. Gee what type of music did I listen to!

Tony Brock with the Babys killed. He also played with Rod Stewart and did some drumming on his Camouflage cd.

I was really into The Babys and Brock's rock solid drumming on them Ludwigs. I saw The Babys with Journey at one of those festival concerts at the LA Coliseum in HS. He nailed "Head First" and this was the gig Journey snaked J. Cain from the band after G. Rollie left. It was also the time S. Smith blew me out of the drumming water with his solo. I had NEVER seen all that "stuff" before. Smith influenced me to explore music outside of pop from that one solo. Recently I had the opportunity to share that with Steve at his LA clinic. Very cool moment for me, especially considering he seems to down play his role in Journey.
Tony is one of the MANY very good drummers who played a role in pop music that fade into the drumming night, only resurrected by the music they played on.
