So courtesy of Mr Drumskull here's a nice little present to kick off '05! It's Weckl when he was with Simon and Garfunkel playing ?50 Ways? with a nice little solo at the end of it. I'm not sure where he got it from or how old it is, maybe you could shed some light Drumskull.

Thanks for your post.
Honestly, if there is not a drum solo at the end of this song, I could think that it's Steve Gadd who is playing.
It's like when you play some Police's song, you cannot do another thing that play in the Stewart's spirit...
For me Weckl is really the Gadd's "drum son".

Hey, look Dave IS human!
Just like us, he starts the tune too fast- then has to slow down...(not by much- though). And there's the guitarist(Paul?)messing up the time in the beginning...but listen to how good this sounds at the second verse(1:53)when it's just Dave and Richard Tee on Rhodes...now that's music!

Sounds like the guitar player is trying to control the tempo. I played with guys like that---piss me off. The tempo really was not that fast, at the end the tempo is about the same. But then again, there are those radar tempo musicians who freak if it's a beat or a half off.

Well, either Paul couldn't hear, or like you said he was trying to control the tempo because he felt it was too fast. Sounded like the latter to me. It was fine- it would have settled into a nice pocket- he didn't have to panic...
Yeah, it pisses me off too when someone tries to take control of the tempo- especially when they're not qualified(but I guess Paul is in this case)...

I've only heard clips of this song through the years with Gadd on the kit since his part is the Staple, and always thought it sounded good, but I never realized until now just how good this tune is. (and that's not necessarily from a drum standpoint, though the motif is all about the Gadd March, which is an awesome part....I need to get the original). That's one of the coolest Choruses I've ever heard.
