Just got a set of A-L 604E speakers w/enclosures(Tuned Duct). Have been sitting in my Dad's basement 4 about 15 yrs. Pulled the the speakers and the cones look great and show no deterioration, drivers are clean
(no signs of being burnt) Horn drivers still light amber. Prior to putting them into my system are there any suggestions.
Talk to GPA. You may want to Recone & Remag them.

Those are very highly regarded speakers. I'm sure with your visual inspection you have discovered some of the reasons why. There are some who prefer this version over all the ones which came before and after.
Use the search function here to find threads discussing the 604. There are lots of them. That will give you a pretty good idea of what other people have done with these speakers. Probably the best thing to do next is to make sure you have them in suitable enclosures and enjoy them.
If you do not see (mechanical damage or separation of surround, etc.) or hear (silence, buzzing) any reason to recone, there is no need to recone.
Remagnetizing the motor in the low frequency section can become necessary if they have been driven very hard by a big, high-current solid state amp. If you know enough about the speakers' history to doubt that has ever occured, then there is no reason to have them remagnetized.

Congrats to this great speakers! I bought a pair of them some years ago and after some experiments with cabinets of moderate sizes i ended up with two really big ones - i can?t tell if theyr?re 620 or 820, i guess 620. They have around 280L net.
I dampened them very rarely - just the old fashioned way. Seems to be the best at last.
An important - and not so easy - problem ist the crossover. The original 1500xo is something . . .
I got two active XEQ2 from EV, which are - as i learned - an original Altec-Design and use two very fine switching amps. That sounds GREAT - almost tube-like sensitive, smooth and delicate with much of room behind, but wirh a far better precision of locating solo instruments.
Nevertheless - because i also own a fine AudioResearch Tube Amp - i?m going to having build a fine passive xo.
Here Jeff Markwart seems to be the right guy - he?s designed a network including time-delay compensation of the coil distance of about 12 or 13cm between low- and high-coils which results in a phase-shift of about some 200deg. (i have the correct numbers, if you?re interested)
It?s really hard - but they wouldn?t be happy in smaller cabs, our lovely 604E . . .
