I think my house could handle a little historic doll parlor set-up easier than a bedroom or dining room. I haven't bought any doll beds or tables yet. I'm wondering what style a historic doll's living room or parlor would be.
Does anyone have any links to historic parlor styles? It might get complicated figuring out because location matters too. Kaya of course would just sit on a fallen tree, right? And Molly would probably have a big over-stuffed chair. But I don't know what the other girls would have.

I'll throw in my 2 cents as far as Felicity goes, since I've taken two classes on colonial decorating. And my mom thought they would never come in handy! Felicity's parlor would have been pretty fancy, the most expensive room in the house. There would be several chairs, probably a card table, a secretary with a pull out desk surface, silver, paintings, and other 'conversation pieces' (zB exotic items like carved shell). Many shiny items (like imported porcelain) would be on display to reflect status and light--colonial parlors were dark! Even though her family wasn't filthy rich, as a merchant, her dad would have been familiar with the latest styles from England, and they would have been reflected in his home decor.

I think Samantha would have had a little fine upholstered couch, in some nice fabric, with a pattern like stripes or gigant flowers. If I where you I'd try to find some homepages about the tv-show "Road to Avonlea", its set in Samanthas time, and I've seen a lot of homepages with really nice interiour pictures.

Kit could have a leather club chair. Here is a description of the one from Pottery Barn and a link to the picture:

"It features lush curves and generous proportions. The well-padded arms, high back and deep seat recall furniture found in the opulent Manhattan nightclubs of the 1930s. Upholstered in aniline-dyed, full-grain leather or durable poly Everydaysuede?. Each piece is built with a hardwood frame, double-doweled joinery and sinuous-steel springs for lasting comfort. The armchair comes with one seat cushion. A matching ottoman doubles as extra seating and a footrest. "

I would think that Kirsten would probably have a wooden rocking chair. But when she moved to the larger house that might have changed....but since her table and chairs still remained simple. I am thinking a rocking chair is something her father could have made and her mother would sit in it while she sewed. If she moved to a fancier house that actually had a parlor, that would change to a chair that was upholstered.
