I was wondering about if any of you have either the Zildjian 21" Special Dry Ride or any of the Light Dry Rides. I was wondering about them for a straight ahead setting.
The set up i use now consists of 14" 60's A's for the hats, 20" HH Manhattan Ride, 20" Bosphorus Traditional Sizzle (with the rivets taken out), and 20" Sabian Carl Allen sizzle ride. I also swap between a 21" 60's A Zildjian with 2 rivets, and a 20" K Custom flat ride with 3 rivets.
Here is the problem: I have a really good sounding family of rides (to my ear and what i like) that i use in a jazz setting, but none of them really stand out as a "Main" ride. I feel that since most of these are pretty mellow in character, that they get lost during some of the more burning parts of, say, a tenor solo.
I want to find something that i could blend into my set up; but could stand out as far as being the one that can be versitile in a jazz setting and not get overpowered but yet not be overpowering. The Light or Special rides pique my interest as maybe being something that could fit that description. Hmmm... maybe i am asking too much for what i want but hopefully you all can help steer me in some direction.
