I need help. For those of you that read newspapaers I'm sure you've the column where they have mugshots of 5 peple and a question that was asked to all 5 people. I have to do that today for my paper, but I can't think of a single question. Normally I would ask about an opinion on a locl/current event, but we've been doing that a lot lately and they want me to ask a generic question. Any suggestions?
Do you think smoking should be completely banned in all public places? [img]graemlins/thinking.gif[/img]
Should people over the age of 75 be alowed to drive ? If yes, should they be required to retake the test every 2 months?
Do you think homosexual couples should have the same legal benefits (insurance, rights of inheritance, ability to adopt, power of attorney, tax filing status, etc.) as heterosexual couples?

I considered phrasing my "gay question" in the terms of "marriage", but a lot of people have a hang up about ok'ing that term for some reason, even though they aren't against certain rights/legal status being fine. Just using the term "marriage" in the context of a homosexual relationship freaks some people out for some reason, so I figured one might get a more varied poll response by not using that specific term..... I don't find the term "marriage" offensive, whether it's connected to heterosexuals, homosexuals, or bisexuals, so I use it... why not?
Hell, I know straight couples that never should've gotten married.
Political correctness has really destroyed this country in the last 15 years.

Each time I hear those old farts on TV saying that If they allow same sex marriages it will force them to "redefine" their marrage to a member of the oposit sex I want to ask them why they cant define their marriage by the love ?
WLN, I don't care about use of the term either, and it has nothing to do with political correctness or offensiveness in this context. It's a strategy decision when phrasing poll questions.
It's well known that poll respondents can be swayed to answer a certain way just by the manner a question is phrased/the terms used. My point was simply that the response to the question could be swayed against "legal status" for homosexual couples if the term "marriage" was used in the question.
Pollsters play with wordage all the time to try and help "get" the results they want. [img]wink.gif[/img]
