Drum Mic Kits

Just looking for comments on any of the various kits (shure/peavey/ca/audix etc..generally 3-6 mics in a kit w/ case and cords for around $200.....are they crap or what?

mic kits don't usually come with cords, those would be seperate, that being said I would get the Audix.

thanks Randy.....so If I were to get say an Audix 7 mic set and something like a Yamaha mixer 16 channel....mics to the mixer then send what...a stereo signal to the board??

Any comments on the Akg Drum Kit Plus..? it includes the legendary d112, 2 c1000s, 4 c418 and the aluminium case. I?m getting one of those, so any feedback is welcome...
I think that the kit plus a sm57 would be a great pro combination...

The AKG pack is a great package.
As to the question above from SJJ, yes mice to the board and either a mono signal or a stereo signal to the house.

Sennheiser e602 for the bass, sm57 for the snare and maybe a pair of r?de NT5 for overheads.

I have a question regarding kick mics. Some of the tailored frequency response mics add a character to the drum that's not there normally. At a Weckl clinic, the techs were changing the kick mic while Dave was playing it. Without the mic, the kick (from a distance) sounded really flat, no bottom but tons of attack. Once the Beta 52 was put in place all of a sudden you got the real nice low frequency "whomp".

So, if you start off with a kick that already has the sound quality that you want (e.g. a well tuned Gretsch with a lot of natural bottom), wouldn't it be better to go with a flat frequency response mic like the SM91 as opposed to the preshaped D112 or the B52?

Andy, problem there with the 91 would be being flat and cannot be pointed directly at the beater spot of the head. So now you have to 'create' high click with eq, yes maybe a d112 or beta52 or even the audixd6 have a 'shape' to them, but I would rather use any of the above 3 before the 91. AND, I do actually use all 3 of these mics and all work really well.
