The front page of the Wall Street Journal today has an article about Colin Campbell and the peak oil movement. I don't know if it says anything you don't already know, but it is an interest if not scary read.
That we have been pumping more oil than we have been finding since the early 80's is a scary thing.
Thanks reason, I'll check it out. Colin Campbell has given some very informative and frightening talks about this subject.
I hate to be the resident doomsayer but Peak Oil is real. It isn't going away and it will not get better. Technology will not help us as we have waited too long. BUT....
The real bad times will probably not be until around 2050 or so. A lot of us won't be around or we'll be too old then to care. But if you have young'uns.........well......sorry.

But you know Jumper, I think maybe the transition away from "fossil fuels" aka "oil" will be a difficult time but in the end I have enough faith in the human spirit and ingenuity and ability to overcome anything that in the long run, the world will be a better place. Just think 100 yrs ago if someone said we were running out of coal. Now look, much reduced coal being used and what a cleaner environment we are in (as far as coal dust at least.....)
Actually I'm getting tired of trying to counter everyone's perception that "we'll think of something" or "the market will find an alternative."
My opinion of these viewpoints are that they are that they are uninformed and uneducated.
The information is available if you want to research it.
It's your choice what to do with that information.
I look forward to the big change, and I think many others do too.

Just want to know how to get in on the next wave.

It was a rather lengthy article, and I think rather balanced.
For the record, doomsayers have been predicting the depletion of oil since they first started pumping it.

If I started following the advice of others based on someone's "research" I wouldn't do 99% of what I do...
I don't trust "research" on most things because every few years the findings of one group are reversed by another.
Nor will I live in fear of what might happen in the future. Hell if I did I wouldn't be in Florida with all the hurricanes that have been visiting.
As to the gloom and doom of it all, why worry about it now when it's inevitable and out of our control? I'll enjoy life while I can, as I can.
With that having been said, I conserve fuel whenever possible and drive a much more fuel efficient vehicle now. Much smaller too. But other than that how can any of us change the dynamics of what makes this appear to be an inevitable scenario?
