Green Day's global sales for the American Idiot album has topped the million sales mark in the first week.
According to figures from their label Warner Music, 'American Idiot' has sold 1,255,000 copies in the last 7 days.
'American Idiot' debuted at number one in England, Australia and Japan. It will debut at number one in the USA with final sales around 270,000.
Their last album 'Warning' is a few thousand short of a million in America. It debuted with first week sales of 155,000.
Meantime, Green Day have announced their first major tour in four years starting on October 6 in New Orleans.

careful reading into these numbers. i believe first week sales are based on 'shipped' units and not actually purchased units.
for example (and its a very generic sample) if virgin records orders 1 million copies of green days new one for day one but only sell 50,000, it will show up as being 1 million units pushed.
that's usually how bands with a huge release out there always start off strong on the next release, pre sale hype and all the build up surrounding it, the record stores stock up hoping to sell alot. if it doesn't sell as well as expected then the next release they don't pre-order as much and the first week sales numbers drop from release to release ala marilyn manson.
