what I miss

I miss HOLLYWOOD, no not that crappy sterile "family friendly" one they have now.

no,no, I miss the greasy grimy filthy 80s HOLLYWOOD, with the sluts and prostitutes and the guys with hair so long that sometimes you had to look TWICE before you asked a chick for her number so you didn't make an ass of yourself.

I miss the fliers littering the sidewalks and sometimes blowing across sunset blvd. I miss walking from club to club just to see what rock star or wanna be rockstar was making an ass of themselves that night...no matter, they all still got laid.

I miss the brawls out in front of the pussycat when sometimes the bikers had had too much to drink and the cops felt like they hadn't caused enough trouble for the night yet (if anyone remembers it was usually between midnight and 1 am when that happened)

I miss walking out to the Ralphs near MIT and shoplifting an occasional burrito or anything else i could fit down the front of my pants.
the MORE make up you wore, the less likely the security guys would stop you...same reason why guy cops won't search female perps anymore...

I miss Azusa avenue, Hell I miss AZUSA, Frikkin' BIKER CAPITOL of the US back in the day. My mom almost dated bikers exclusivly for awhile (including a one that we are pretty sure did "off" someone but no one can prove anything).

This was my LOS ANGELES. The city of LOST ANGELS. how appropriate now that the HUGE scene that was once so prominent is lost...forever.

everyone has gotten older, bands are now younger than most of us. we don't really relate to what they are doing, and those of us who are still playing, can't really write anything that relates to them...

but they will NEVER have what we had in L.A.

that was a one time deal in the galactic realm of all things. the record labels will be careful never to let that happen again...the clubs will never bow down to that kind of scene again...why?

I miss L.A.

I miss it too though I have never been there yet... Here in Europe we got Hellsinki which is the only place where still can be smelled that 80's atmosphere...

That actually brought a tear to my eye......to know I wasn't old enough to have been there in the 80's and to know I'll never see that happen again.

Also to know that is also what I love even though I wasn't there, what you said is a big reason I am into the music I am today.

In my late thirties here and still livin' in the 80's I don't want to wake up...

Never been there, but that was one of the finest little bits ever written on this site. You need to print that puppy out and paste it all over your LA taking the place of the fliers that once littered the city. Do it as a tribute to the days gone past.

was never there back in the day, i was more of a NYC city boy but I do agree with you on it's current status. I've been there twice this year and the only thing remotely rock n roll on the strip now is a tower records. it was a major let down, so much so that we went back to give it another chance (by a friends prodding) and it still was lame.

When I was young, and subscribed to every magazine, and bought every album for every Hollywood band, I used to dream of exactly that place you mentioned...so many years ago. My buddy was bold enough to take 2 years off after High School, but before college, and moved down there to enjoy the scene. ('89-'90). I sure wish I would've gone with him now. School could have waited, and it would have been something I would never have forgotten. I was involved in the "grunge" scene a few years later, and there was something magical about that period too.
I like glam better, but it was a blast being in a scene as it's exploding. Now, the Seattle scene sucks too. Not much going on here.

That was a cool piece matey,I think we all had a "strip" of sorts around the world in every city in my case wishing Nottingham was LA ,I was lucky enough to go for 6 months in 1990 sold my house to do it,one of the greatest memories of my life saw some great shows met some great friends......i`m welling up i gotta stop....its too much [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]
