I picked up SvC today at the comic shop.
Spawn vs. Cy-Gor
Sculpt
The sculpt is phenomenal on both of these figures. Spawn has good detail on the body, and very fine detail and texture was added to all his 'red parts' ie. boot, gauntlet, spikes, etc. The cape is also a great sculpt, with an almost tattered look at the end.
Cy-Gor is equally as impressive, if not better. There is great contrast between the fine detail of the furry, organic parts and the smooth, sleek bionic parts. Exceptional detail on the head especially.
There are also 2 things I would like to point out. The first might actually fit into my 'Engineering' section, but I will mention it here. There seems to be a variation based on how the set is put into the package. There seem to be 2 different ways the right side of his cowl is put into the package, causing the plastic to sit and set in different ways. One such way is obviously as mine is, but the other way causes the cowl to be folded backwards more. It his hard to explain, and I wish I had pictures to show it. The 2 versions seem to be in equal abundance though. My comic shop had 2 of each.
The second thing I would like to piont out is the size of this set. As you can see in some of my pictures, the top of his cape goes almost outside of my backdrop. It looks quite impressive sitting on the shelf.
Actually, there's a 3rd thing I'd like to point out. Due to the downward nature of Spawn's orientation, this is definately a top shelf piece if you would like to see Spawn.
Haha..shit. Make that 4 things. Spawn's face sculpt is exceptional. The 2nd best hamburger head next to Santa Spawn. Unfortunately, it is largely obstructed by his arm. Not a huge issue, but it would have been nice to get a slighly clearer view.
Paint
The paint on this set is excellent overall, except for one design choice I will point out later.
Spawn's paint is very clean all over, except for small amounts of bleed from the spikes onto the red parts. But that is only noticable if you look closely. The cape has excellent use of highlighting on it, as does the head. I would also like to point out the excellent blending from head to black body, which is a vast improvement on the shoddy job done with unmasked Spawn VI.
Cygor is great all over. Again, excellent contrast between the organic and metallic parts. Again, special note to the mouth and eyes. The mouth has glossy paints, making it look appropriately wet. The eyes are cleanly painted, and you can clearly see Cy-Gor looking off to the side, which I felt was a nice touch.
The issue I would like to raise is the red colour choices. When the set was revealed, I was unhappy with the fact that the cape and 'red parts' were a different shade of red, with the 'red parts' having more of a purple tint to them. When we first saw packaged pics, it had looked like they listened to us. However, they didn't. I have included picture which demonstrates this. Luckily, it doesn't bother me as much as I would have thought.
Engineering
I feel this set was extremely well constructed. The base is solid, with extra precaution taken in making the peg-holders longer, to keep them from breaking out of the base. The pegs on the other end go deep into the figures, holding them quite strongly. When I was putting Spawn's peg in, the plastic bit at the end cracked a bit, but it still holds Spawn exceptionally well.
Something worth noting is the extra support they included to keep his cape the way it should be. Too often, they seem to just expect the cape to stay the way it does in the protos. As we know, this is not the case, as can be seen with Spawn i.109 from S24.
